Mostly just sharing the public safety & public health stories getting buried by algorithms or ignored by legacy media. Plus my own takes on the right-wing effort to gut the agencies meant to protect us. No both sidesing allowed. Follow me if you're unapologetically pro-democracy.
Chicago HSI task force used undercover agents, "electronic surveillance, audio recordings, license- plate-reader data, and surveillance cameras" from Chicago's CCTV network to identify protest attendees and build connections to other anti-ICE protests in Illinois + other states.

in the united states, opposition to ai isn’t fear of technology. americans haven’t suddenly become a nation of luddites.
it’s a well founded belief that those with power are not going to use ai in ways that benefit the average american.
this is not a comms problem.
it’s a trust problem.
Musk dropping $76 million to build "a shadow Republican National Committee" for the GOP ground game is wild. We are watching a single tech CEO buy out the electoral infrastructure of an entire political party just to protect his own business interests.
Highly pathogenic avian flu has spread to Washington dairy cattle, yet the federal plan to vaccinate poultry was shelved. RFK Jr. pushed to let the virus "run through the flock" instead to build natural immunity. Experts warn this gives the disease more opportunities to mutate.
Folks stand ready for all scenarios. In @thebulwark: Officials are wargaming defenses: "It seems unusual that we would need to prepare for threats from federal officers, but if that’s what [Trump] decides to do, we’ll be prepared to deal with it." 👇

The Ilhan Omar story is a bigger deal than the attention it's getting. POTUS dispatched his politicized DOJ to investigate a sitting Congresswoman, weeks before an election, for the sole purpose of deporting her, by stripping her of her citizenship....
Trump can try, but elections are run locally by counties, cities, and ultimately states. The system held up in 2020 and only more work and preparation has been done since. Courts have blocked federal overreach. Election workers are ready for whatever authoritarian shit he tries.
This 💯. Not going to post 'scary' election headlines without acknowledging this. Not doing so could inadvertently lead to people not feeling comfortable voting and feeling like their vote won't count.
Yes, threats to our right to vote are real. It's also true that authoritarians rely on fear to paralyze us.
Join us in staying focused and prepared. Our system is holding, millions are already voting, and patient explanation works better than panic: ifyoucankeepit.org/p/how-to-…

ALT Quote about confidence and action: 'When we feel afraid, we are less likely to take action. Less likely to go to a protest in defense of the rule of law. Less willing to speak out against injustice. Less willing to stand up for free and fair elections. Less likely even to vote. So in every conversation ... the most important thing you can do is tap into your own sense of confidence.' - If you can keep it
...Think about all the ways that $ could be better spent. The post-Citizens United campaign finance system is completely broken.

A scientist can spend 20 years studying a subject.
A conspiracy theorist can invent a lie in 20 seconds.
Guess which one gets a million views? Welcome to the rage economy.
The more outrageous the claim, the more people react.
The more people react, the more the algorithms spread it.
And the more attention the platforms get, the more money they can make.
The platform profits.
The conspiracy theorist gets famous.
And the rest of us get angry.
But here’s the thing.
Outrage doesn’t put food on the table. Conspiracy theories don’t cure diseases. And misinformation doesn’t solve real problems.
We’ve built a system where making people angry can be more profitable than making people informed.
And then we wonder why everyone is angry.
