The Traitors only works as a format if everyone pretends, once the game is underway, that they are committed to being a Faithful. Of course, telling Claudia in confidence at the very outset that you’d like to be a Traitor is fine. It gives the show some texture and the viewer some context. But if anyone thereafter goes around announcing, “I want to be recruited”, the whole structure of the game starts to disintegrate. The format depends on committed Faithfuls trying to hunt down the Traitors.
