Over 63 members of the clergy are serving sentences in prison right now. They’ve all worn prison garb but haven’t sparked protest. Of the monks, all besides Gnanasara are in jail for sexual crimes, a top government source said.

A peaceful candle-holding protest was held in Jaffna today, calling for a royal pardon for Anojan, a Sri Lankan national facing the death penalty in Saudi Arabia.
People voluntarily gathered following an invitation shared through social media, holding candles and making a humble appeal to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to grant Anojan a royal pardon and allow him to return home.
The participants urged the Saudi authorities to show mercy and compassion and appealed for Anojan’s release.
