Andy Burnham going to bat for a far right dictatorship that has inflicted what was the worst humanitarian crisis in the world on Yemen. Nice guy though.

It’s highly unlikely Burnham would be PM if ‘they’ - the security state, the corporate media, the Westminster political class etc - thought he’d act any differently. He’d have got the Corbyn / Polanski treatment.

‘Don’t say this true thing because it’ll give our enemies ammunition’ means never making progress on an issue. You need to name and describe the problem accurately if you want to bring people along with solving it in a just and democratic way.
The best possible “optics” is saying the truth, loudly, and clearly, when everyone around you is lying.

‘We win by not fighting for our politics’ probably isn’t the best plan.

Thread I did on this issue in 2020:
Replying to @ElwinWay
More and more convinced that McDonnell’s supposed strategic brilliance is just short hand for ‘Will capitulate to the right on foreign policy and defence issues and therefore get less flak than Corbyn did’. That’s it. That’s the ‘strategic brilliance’.

The Russian armed forces go from being a bunch of clowns armed with spades (so if we Arm Ukraine they’ll win easily!) or a technologically advanced behemoth that presents a huge threat (that’s why we have to spend more £ on our own armed forces), depending on what’s convenient.

Been doing her homework and has discovered that disabled children often become disabled adults.
She’s obsessed in a particularly cruel minor Dickens character way about all this

Starmer’s levels of duplicity and lying. Burnham, with a straight face, here claims he wants to “push power out of Westminster” while yesterday threatening to throw local government into chaos unless Green coalition partners publicly denounce anti-zionism!
"My message to John is simple, I want to push economic power out into the regions of Scotland, do you?" Andy Burnham challenges Scotland's First Minister John Swinney to "push power" out from Westminster and Holyrood "into the hands of local people" bbc.in/4yl7lNX

Don’t want to pick on any single MP, but here’s a reminder of how timid the Labour left became on Palestine post-2019. This is the left candidate in the 2020 Labour leadership election agreeing that describing the formation of Israel as ‘racist’ is antisemitic.
This from the Jewish Labour Movement hustings last night. Peston: Do you regard it as antisemitic to describe Israel, it’s policies, or the circumstances around its foundation as racist, because of their discriminatory impact? Is that an antisemitic statement? Long-Bailey: Yes

That’s where you end up when you continually try and appease people who hate you and your politics.

These comments barely caused a ripple at the time. The ‘alternative’ media around the Labour left all but ignored them. As did many activists. Nothing good portended from it IMO.

Did this thread on the prospect for meaningful Palestinian solidarity (including challenging Zionism as an ideology) in Your Party in August 2025. Could just as easily apply to The Greens, especially given current events.
That Zionism in practice rather than in the abstract is a colonial, racist ideology that underpins the forced dispossession of Palestinians from their land by Israel is a longstanding belief for many anti-racists, anti-colonialists and anti-imperialists.

The Labour Party don’t want to work with a party that has a principled anti-racist policy on Palestine, apparently. I don’t know anything about these areas, their politics or why the Greens are working with Labour. I do to think it’s important that they stand up to this.
The prime minister says the Green Party’s motion opposing a two state solution for Israel and Palestine is anti semitic - and that Labour could not form any alliance with the Greens while that remains its official policy

A very easy and obvious riposte is ‘We’ll stand by our anti-racist position thanks. Now tell your party to stop arming Israel, stop arming Saudi Arabia, stop facilitating war crimes in Iran and Yemen’, etc

Labour can’t then turn around and say ‘What have Israel, Iran, Saudi and Yemen got to do with bin collections in Lewis!??’, because it’s *them* issuing ultimatums based on national party international policies.

I'm the only Jewish leader of a political party. I'm a victim of Antisemitism every day and I've made it clear Jewish people are welcome in my party. You're a Prime Minister who arms a genocide and locks pensioners up for opposing it.
Andy Burnham rules out any partnership between Labour and the Green Party due to their controversial motion declaring "Zionism is racism". 🔗 trib.al/c05KDDg
