Q: Did the U.S. have anything to do with Starlink not working in Ukraine at the moment? Zelensky said it was deliberate.
Rubio: I don't know what Zelensky said. I'm not sure Zelensky knows what he's talking about, but it wasn't deliberate.
We had nothing to do with it. Nobody ordered Starlink's speed to be slowed down. It sort of happened. My understanding is it's been restored. It's back to where it was before.

All my adult life active in Tory politics I supported the US Republicans & even attended in 1999 the GOP Convention in Philadelphia. Shocking now 27 years later to see what Trump has made of it by cosying up to Putin & I pray Democrats win midterms & paralyse any more mischief. – at Wolfsthal, Österreich

Watching this makes me wonder if the security officers have ever considered, just for the shits and giggles, letting Trump wander off on his own to see how far he gets before realising he doesn't know where he's going. – at Bury Saint Edmunds, England

I’m genuinely fascinated by what these people think they’re achieving.
Does waving a St George’s flag over a dual carriageway somehow improve the NHS, reduce bills or fix the country’s problems?
Or is the entire exercise about getting attention?

@MittRomney Putin's strategy is to terrorize the men, women and children of Ukraine and slaughter them. This includes raping their girls and women. Yet, Trump still adores Putin and wants to be like him. What does this tell us about Trump?!

🚨 Posh privately educated podcaster Winston Marshall was asked about Andy Burnham's Lanarkshire speech and the coming Budget, and moved quickly to immigration and welfare despite having no academic or professional qualifications relevant to economics, welfare or migration.
He's the son of Paul Marshall, co-owner of GB News and owner of The Spectator and UnHerd.
Let's examine what he said in this video clip, posted by @BBCNewsnight.
1. "He [Burnham] said absolutely nothing in Scotland."
False. The speech offered to devolve DWP employment support to Scotland and promised a national devolution summit.
2. Burnham is "a career politician" spinning himself as an outsider.
Defensible opinion. But his outsider claim rests on nine years as Greater Manchester mayor, outside Westminster.
The anti-establishment charge also comes from a St Paul's-educated son of a hedge fund billionaire.
3. "1.85 million foreign nationals claiming £23 billion on welfare."
Misleading. The figure comes from the Centre for Social Justice, a Tory-aligned think tank founded by Iain Duncan Smith and rated D for funding transparency by Who Funds You?. The government said it did not recognise the estimate because it relied on samples.
The total includes £2.9bn in pension-related payments, with around 400,000 people on the state pension they paid into, and £5.8bn in child-related support. Only £14.3bn is working-age benefits.
4. "1.3 million foreign nationals taking Universal Credit to the tune of £11.9 billion… They're not British."
False as stated. It joins two different measures.
- The 1.3 million is a count of individual claimants.
- The £11.9bn is UC paid to households containing at least one foreign national.
The DWP counts a joint claim as foreign even when one partner is British, and these households include British children.
The DWP has said it cannot give the cost of claims by foreign nationals at the required quality, because UC is paid per household. So part of the £11.9bn goes to British citizens.
The framing has been promoted by the anti-immigration Centre for Migration Control, an advocacy group run and written by one person, Robert Bates, with no published methodology.
5. "It doesn't matter the 85%."
It is the key figure. Foreign nationals made up 15.2% of UC claimants in January 2026, the lowest on record, down from 17.5% in June 2024.
The DWP says even that probably overstates the true share, because some claimants become British citizens without their records being updated.
6. "So?" in reply to the point that many were invited to fill labour shortages.
This ignores who the claimants are. Of nearly 1.5 million foreign nationals who claimed UC at some point in 2025, around 899,000 held EU Settlement Scheme status.
Those rights are protected under the Withdrawal Agreement, and even Reform accepts that removing them would require negotiation with Brussels.
7. "…without getting rid of this kind of globalist…"
He was cut off, so the full meaning is unknown. "Globalist" is a vague pejorative with a conspiratorial history. Here it casts an elected government as serving someone other than its voters, with no evidence offered.
8. "Highest tax burden since the end of the war."
Broadly accurate, but it is a forecast. The OBR projects a record 38.3% of GDP by 2030/31. His proposed answer, to "gut it," came with no specifics.
9. "A million young people not at work."
Close. The ONS estimated 981,000 young people not in education, employment or training in April to June 2026. BUT 588,000 of them are economically inactive rather than unemployed, and nearly half of NEET young people report a health condition that limits work. "Encourage people to work" assumes the problem is incentives.
10. "I'm worried about poverty, not inequality… you have to create wealth."
A false choice that assumes trickle-down works. It doesn't. His dad is Paul Marshall, of course he's not worried about inequality, and he will never experience poverty.
#newsnight have sunken to new lows by inviting clueless ‘Mumford and sons guitarist 2007-2021’ Winston Mashall to spout his dads GB News and Spectator narrative.
