Yes, but what can I/we do about it? For carbon, we can conserve, go green. For waste, there are plans. For financial infrastructure like this, what do I do? Ask Senator Warren? Tell her? Tell her what? It is bad for social cohesion?
What most people already understand, even without the economic terminology, is that firms like BlackRock operate less like investors and more like modern feudal landlords. They buy essential infrastructure, water networks, ports, energy grids, data centres, and other public necessities, often using vast amounts of borrowed money and paying prices that ordinary market participants cannot match. Once the acquisition is complete, the debt is pushed onto the acquired company itself. The result is simple: the public pays. Consumers repay that debt through higher water bills, rising energy prices, increased fees, and declining service quality. The infrastructure becomes a cash-extraction machine. Profits flow upward to shareholders and executives, while the financial burden flows downward to ordinary households. When the model inevitably breaks down, the consequences are socialised. Communities are left with crumbling infrastructure, polluted rivers and failing services. Thames Water's £14 billion debt mountain and repeated sewage scandals are a stark example of what happens when financial engineering takes precedence over public stewardship. The executives who loaded the company with debt have already collected their bonuses. The investors have already taken their returns. And when the system finally reaches its breaking point, taxpayers are expected to pick up the bill. Privatise the gains. Socialise the losses. That is the business model......

There is a fundamental lack of understanding in foreign coverage of this election about what Flávio Bolsonaro actually is, who and what he represents. Gangsterism. Rio Militias. Organised crime. He isn’t his Dad. He’s actually worse. youtu.be/glTfj5dU6HY?si=ihB-…

America's gifts to Russia never end, with Russian military bloggers now confirming that Washington's operation to cut Ukraine's Starlink has halted Ukraine's ability to strike Russian logistics routes in Ukraine. An operation likely written in the Kremlin, executed by Washington.

“THEY CHEERED.” 💔 Republicans up for reelection next month are hoping we’ll forget moments like this — when Senators CHEERED after passing a bill that kicks millions off healthcare, raises the national debt by $3.5 trillion, and gives handouts to billionaires. We haven’t. 📸: AP

There's been nearly $470 million in cancelled federal funding affecting tribal nations and Native organizations through fiscal year 2026. This is across 1,597 grants and contracts including $20 million for tribally owned wind turbines in Alaska, $6 million for land access in Montana, and $2 million for an agricultural revolving fund in South Dakota. Over 55% of the total Native cuts targeted EPA programs, which is stalling urgent upgrades to drinking water and wastewater treatment systems on tribal lands. Native recipients lost 12.1% of their obligated funding under DOGE-targeted awards, compared to 8.3% for non-Native recipients. These numbers exclude losses from federal layoffs and office closures, so this doesn't even capture how devastating the effects really are.

"A senior Iranian official has already named undersea cables, data centers and Gulf energy as the retaliation list, and Alan reads Tehran’s new defense minister, a missile and drone man, as a bet on more rockets.".. What fatwa? Is the idea of a bomb worth it?
🇮🇷🇺🇸 Iran's oil at sea is running out and Trump still won't lift the blockade until he gets the nuclear file first... so the next move after the midterms is likely more bombs The deal Tehran wants is the Islamabad seven-point plan with the blockade lifted and assets unfrozen first and nuclear talks a week or a month later, and the deal Washington wants runs in the opposite order. Alan Eyre says the blockade is working, but one more big bomb won't move Iran's red lines: "From highly unlikely to wildly improbable that the Iranians will move their red lines." A senior Iranian official has already named undersea cables, data centers and Gulf energy as the retaliation list, and Alan reads Tehran’s new defense minister, a missile and drone man, as a bet on more rockets. He doesn’t expect a sprint for the bomb, though he says the fatwa may be up for a rethink, which leaves a third round buying Washington another pause and no settlement. @AlanEyre1 @WeTheBrandon

BREAKING: Hegseth secretly met Netanyahu at Ovda Air Base in Israel today to discuss resuming major combat operations against Iran, 8 days before Israel's election, per two sources to Axios. The IDF has ordered a military-wide leave freeze starting Thursday and instituted the absolute highest state of alertness, with command center staffing brought to wartime strength. It comes as the US struck Iran's Konarak Naval Base.

"Russia [in its] war of aggression, systematically targeted Ukrainian civilians, & [used] terror as an instrument of state policy. Rather than confronting this...Trump rewards it, undermines [US] allies, & sacrifices [US] strategic interests to [aid] Russian imperial ambitions."
"Congress is preoccupied with the Nov. 3 election, but Mr. Trump may not appreciate the anger he’s courting if he keeps aiding Mr. Putin. When the election is over there needs to be a bipartisan reckoning for Mr. Trump’s budding alliance with the Kremlin against Ukraine, Europe and American interests." Trump needs to be stopped for the good of Ukraine, the United States, and the world. Russia is a third-rate revanchist power with nuclear weapons, whose geopolitical ambitions far exceed its underlying economic and technological strength. Its nuclear arsenal and capacity for military aggression make it dangerous, but they do not make it America's equal. Yet Trump treats Moscow as though it were entitled to dictate the sovereignty and security arrangements of its neighbors, debasing America in the process. Russia has waged a war of aggression, systematically targeted Ukrainian civilians, and employed terror as an instrument of state policy. Rather than confronting this behavior, Trump rewards it, undermines America's allies, and sacrifices American strategic interests to accommodate Russian imperial ambitions. Congress must exercise its oversight powers, investigate the administration's decisions, and impose meaningful constraints where necessary. The United States cannot afford to undermine the international order that has underpinned its security, prosperity, and influence for decades. This cannot continue.

Even his minions can't hide the truth. "Sunday, the Wall Street Journal editorial board, the conservative voice of Rupert Murdoch’s flagship paper, tore into Trump over his decision to waive tariffs on the biggest buyers of Russian energy. The board said Trump offered no real explanation beyond a one-line claim that the waiver serves the national interest, argued the opposite is true, and concluded that Trump is now “Mr. Putin’s best friend in the world,” with only China’s Xi Jinping possibly ahead of him. The board went further. It said the evidence keeps piling up that Trump wants Ukraine to surrender on Putin’s terms, and pointed to Reuters reporting that an order to throttle SpaceX’s Starshield satellite service, which Ukraine relies on for air defense and strikes, came from inside the White House. Its demand: once the Nov. 3 election is over, Congress owes the country a bipartisan reckoning over Trump’s budding alliance with the Kremlin. For the record, this is an opinion piece, not new reporting. Trump said Friday that the Starshield order wasn’t his and that he doesn’t think it was Elon Musk’s, and on Saturday he called the waiver a very good decision. As we reported Sunday morning, Ted Cruz, Nikki Haley and Thom Tillis objected too. Why it matters: This isn’t a Democratic attack ad. It’s the editorial page Republican donors read over breakfast, and it’s now saying Trump is working for Putin’s interests, not America’s. When Murdoch’s own paper calls for a reckoning, the Russia story has stopped being a partisan one. Oh, that's what was posted. "North Carolina A&T State University students recently marched to the polls after the Guilford County Board of Elections denied their on‑campus early voting site, joining students from UNC Greensboro and Bennett College in a coordinated action"
To the brave students of North Carolina A&T: I want you to know that I see you. We see you. And I am damn proud. You are carrying on the legacy of John Lewis, of Diane Nash, of Dr. King. You are exemplifying what it means to fight for our democracy. Keep showing up. Keep participating. Keep voting. Keep fighting. #ncat #NorthCarolina

@Scaramucci Among The worst things this US Admin is doing, is discrediting the International Criminal Court. It was the USA that had the prestige & respect of the World, that kept the threat of this Court, over the actions of many bad actors. Now it will be a Global free for all.

Is he spilling the beans? He thinks an ocean can protect us, vintage 1980? Has he noticed the web? The trolls, hackers? The interconnectedness of trade, great for optimization (excluding tariffs) but awful for defense?
And — if it doesn’t PERSONALLY affect us — why should we care⁉️ Would love for the “religious right” to explain THIS one. WWJD, right? ❤️

Rep. DeLauro, ranking Appropriations: "Withholding these transfers does nothing to de-escalate the conflict. It only encourages the aggressor to amplify its aggression. More innocent civilians will die if" you stall this approved transfer. There's no end to amplifying the pain.
House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) issued the following statement: “Once again, by its neglect, the Trump administration is weakening Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against Russian aggression. The administration is putting civilians at risk from Russian strikes which are only increasing in intensity. Slow-walking the approval of these transfers is putting countless civilians directly in harm’s way. “These are defensive missiles which intercept incoming Russian ordnance before they have a chance to demolish apartment buildings, schools, hospitals, or critical infrastructure in Ukraine. Withholding these transfers does nothing to de-escalate the conflict. It only encourages the aggressor to amplify its aggression. More innocent civilians will die if the Trump administration continues to hold up this aid. “Secretary Hegseth must facilitate the swift transfer of these defensive munitions at once. As winter approaches and these Russian missiles take out Ukraine’s electric grid that provides heat to families, the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine will only worsen. And if the Trump administration continues on its current path, countless innocent lives will be lost. This is unconscionable.”

There's another YouTube post of Elias (since Friday), when he, from my POV, was mainly saying more lawyers were needed. Besides his 80, I think he said. Lawyers, fore! The golf ball is in your court. Don't mind me.
With two weeks until Election Day, we are at the intersection of Donald Trump's plan to make it harder for you to vote and easier for him to cheat. When Republicans lose the House and Senate Trump will escalate the attacks. But he will fail and we will win.

“Our historical rights are not subject to approval from London.” lol. There literally is no Israel without the Balfour Declaration from London.
The obsession of the British Labour Government with Israel seemingly knows no bounds. The days when Israel would quietly accept threats, sanctions and attempts to dictate its policies are over. Judea and Samaria are not foreign lands to the Jewish people. Our historical rights are not subject to approval from London. The British Labour Government would do better to address the serious challenges facing its own country rather than pursue its relentless campaign against the Jewish state. Israel will not be intimidated by threats. We will defend our rights and our national interests.
