The guiding principles here in Benghazi are clear: #Libya’s national interest first, sovereignty, independent national decision-making, strategic autonomy, and non-interference.
The current and relatively immediate strategic objective of the authorities in #Benghazi is to unify the homeland, restore the authority of the state, safeguard territorial integrity, achieve full national sovereignty, and ensure the independence of national decision-making.
It goes without saying that, from Benghazi’s perspective, friends and partners are those who support these principles and contribute to achieving these immediate strategic objectives. #Libya

Turkish intelligence chief İbrahim Kalın is expected in Tripoli on Tuesday morning for meetings with senior security officials.
Meanwhile, Benghazi will host a House of Representatives session, with ratification of the Libya–Turkey maritime agreement back on the agenda.
Ankara and Benghazi could be on the cusp of a major breakthrough in relations, with significant geopolitical implications for Libya and the wider Eastern Mediterranean.

The United States congratulates Mr. Salihin Abdalnabi on becoming Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, as well as Mr. Tareq Ashtar and Mr. Misbah Douma on their selections as First and Second Deputy Speaker respectively. We look forward to working with the House of Representatives, its new leadership, and all Libyan stakeholders and institutions to advance a political process that unifies Libya's political, economic, and military institutions and clears the way for successful national elections. Libya's leaders and people have an opportunity to overcome their divisions, achieve national unity, and forge a lasting peace. Working closely with the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and our international partners, the United States will remain at the forefront of diplomatic efforts to support Libyan-led unification.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) followed the recent sessions of the House of Representatives (HoR) held in Benghazi earlier this week. On 5 October, the House convened and we are informed that there were at least 102 members participating in the session. Ninety-eight members voted to amend the Rules of Procedure, including establishing a rotating 12-month term for the Presidency of the HoR. On 6 October, we are informed that at least 111 members in attendance conducted elections for a new Presidency of the HoR. UNSMIL notes the election of Mr. Al Saleheen Abdulnabi as Speaker of the House of Representatives, as well as the election of a new leadership team.
UNSMIL stresses its commitment to engaging with the HoR, its new Presidency, and all members. The Mission will continue its engagement with the parliament to advance the UNSMIL-facilitated political roadmap to unify institutions, address critical reforms, and hold elections within the timeframe stipulated in the Smaller Convening Agreement signed on 30 August. We are committed to working with Libyan stakeholders and international partners in this effort.

After 12 years, Agila Saleh is out. His replacement, al-Saleheen Abdul Nabi al-Abidi, comes from the same tribe and clan. That is no coincidence.
Drawing on our sources, we examine who he is and how the LNA secured his selection, balancing tribal interests and ties with Cairo while bringing parliament firmly into its orbit.

Interesting read of the week
As the Hormuz crisis reshapes global energy markets, Libya is gaining renewed attention as an alternative oil and gas supplier.
But can Libya turn higher demand into lasting economic gains, or will it deepen the country’s dependence on hydrocarbons?

Yesterday, the city of #Benghazi witnessed the reopening of the rebuilt University of Benghazi campus. A truly significant milestone for the city!
More than 10 years ago, I remember writing, tweeting, and reporting on the destruction and war that engulfed the university campus. Seeing it rebuilt and reopened yesterday was a powerful reminder that, after hardship, despair, and the loss of hope, these can be replaced by development, hope, and a renewed belief in the future.
I hope this renewed belief in the future extends beyond the university and becomes a source of hope for confronting the different, yet equally important, hardships our people face today. May the rebuilding of Benghazi remind us that what is broken can be rebuilt, that setbacks do not have to define our future, and that Libya’s next chapter can be one of development, opportunity, hope and prosperity.
Yesterday was a moment to look forward to. 🇱🇾 #Libya
