California desperately needs to give voters the ability to vote for all the candidates they like rather than just one. If they did that, every runoff would be between the two actually most popular candidates in the state (which would always be two Democrats).

Garry, the number one structural solve here is approval voting. @ElectionScience is the best resource. Ask Claude to defend why approval voting implementation is the single-highest leverage action to take.

Approval voting is the way to go. It's so simple.
This is bad. Across 16 closed primary states, registered independents lack the right to vote in congressional primary elections. They also cannot even be included on the ballot as candidates in some states. Others require you to be a registered member of a party to vote in ANY election.

Approval voting is a game-changer for elections!  1️⃣ Ends the Spoiler Effect: Vote for your honest favorite without fear of "wasted votes" or helping your least favorite win. 2️⃣ Boosts Consensus: Winners need broad appeal and the widest community support.

What we need is approval voting, a methodology that enables us to get past the problems (such as the "lesser of two evils" dilemma) that plague *every* election. @ElectionScience

Voter ID and vote security are obvious administrative necessity, but not enough. The far bigger problem is first past the post voting producing duopoly via the spoiler effect. The ancient Greeks didn’t design democracy as a two horse race. Approval voting overcomes the duopoly.

President Trump: "All we want is voter ID. You go to a grocery store, you have to give ID. You go to a gas station, you give ID. But for voting they want no voter ID. It's only for one reason: because they cheat"

Yes, Approval is much simpler! I recommend checking out @ElectionScience as an organization that actively advocates for it.

Today in "we need voting mechanisms that select moderates rather than polarized swings": just as "don't enforce the border" led to a huge political swing, "cowards in masks illegally harassing random people for ID" will lead to the reverse. @ATabarrok - time for approval voting?
“We’re doing a citizen check” show me your papers is not a thing in America without either being in/near border or having reasonable suspicion of immigration law violation

“Is it safe to support the candidate I genuinely prefer?” That question drives interest in Ranked Choice Voting and Approval Voting — but the mechanics matter. Here's a deep dive on vote splitting, spoilers, and what these systems actually do. bit.ly/vote-splitting

It's fantastic to see more and more communities learning about Approval Voting at campaign events! It's refreshing to have candidates who understand that better voting starts with one simple tweak to the ballot: letting voters choose all the candidates they approve of.
I called it - other candidates in this race aren't talking about bettering your lives, they're content with just lying about me. This is the problem with politics. And it's fixable.

Approval Voting is a simple system that encourages broader voter expression, eliminates the "spoiler effect," and is designed to elect candidates with the broadest public support.  #votingreform #electionreform

Utah State Senator Dan Thatcher switched from the GOP to the Forward Party in March. Then he resigned in October. Utah state law allowed the Forward Party to pick his replacement which was done by Approval Voting where people vote for all the candidates of which they approve.

DEMS WIN BIG IN IOWA: Democrat Renee Hardman wins IA State Senate SD-16 with 71.5%, a 27-point Dem overperformance from 2024. Harris won the district by 16. Hardman's victory blocks a GOP supermajority and makes history as the first Black woman elected to the Iowa Senate.

Term limits would not be necessary if our elections were actually competitive. Adopting approval voting makes every election competitive, thus restoring accountability and thus youthful energy to our representation. electionscience.org/educatio…
I think we need term limits.
