Why?? Why do “incentives” matter? Things we’d like our elected representatives to do: - fair redistricting - secure elections - require transparency - put #CountryOverParty - pass reforms that put voters first Other examples of #ChangingTheIncentives and why incentives matter?

2028 Prediction: based on # of likely candidates and the method most states use for the electoral college, BOTH major parties are likely to wish they could use Ranked Choice Voting in their primaries. And… a National Popular Vote in the General? @NatlPopularVote @RankTheVote

Today is the 1st Day of Saturday voting in Georgia. We continue to see the record midterm turnout as we will cross 10% of Active Voters casting a ballot in a couple of hours. The Early Vote turnout through Day 4 totals 709,785. By Day 4 in 2022 we had seen 520,738. That is a 36.3% increase. In '22 we saw a 56.9% turnout. If we match that we could see 1 in 5 voters for this election having cast their ballot by the end of the weekend. Georgia voters of both parties and all ages are getting it done.

I have said this for years… the rate could step down above a certain level (similar to the Medicare tax in the ACA). This is not that difficult.
A teacher earning $60,000 pays Social Security taxes on every dollar she earns. A worker earning $184,500 does, too. But someone earning $1 million pays the tax on just the first $184,500. Nothing more. Yes, the country’s billionaires pay into Social Security as if they make $184,500. That doesn’t make sense. So I have a bill to eliminate this arbitrary cap on Social Security taxes. If those with the highest incomes just paid the same share as everyone else, we could inject around $3 TRILLION into the program over the next 10 years. I'm fighting hard to protect Social Security.

If you (or someone you know) lives in Massachusetts, please inform yourself and follow your heart, not a party. I support primaries that allow everyone to vote for the person they think is best in every race in every election. @vote_yeson3ma
“A yes on Question 3 is a yes for working people,” - Colton Andrews, president of the Western MA Building Trades Unions. “Our members work long hours, raise families and contribute to every major project that keeps Western Massachusetts running. They deserve a system that makes it easier – not harder – to participate in our democracy. A yes vote on Question 3 empowers every worker, every household, and every community to have a stronger voice in choosing leaders who represent their interests. Our democracy works best when everyone can participate. Open primaries give working people more power – and we’re proud to stand with voters across Massachusetts in supporting this important reform.” We’re honored to have the endorsement of the Western MA Building Trades Unions. #Massachusetts #mapoli #RegisterToVote

Helps that everyone was eligible to vote for the candidate they thought was best. All-candidate primaries in states like Washington give Independent candidates a stronger mandate going into a General election. Better choices, better elections, better incentives to put voters 1st!
We have our first wins of 2026! Two @IndyVetsAmerica -endorsed independent vets made the top-two in Washington state’s open primaries this week—and will advance to the general in November. And one more is down now by only 415 votes with 42k left to count. We have a real shot to go 3 for 4 this week: independentveteransofamerica… The independent vet movement is growing. And winning! Leave the partisan herds. Declare your independence and run with the pack.🗳️🇺🇸🐺 📺I’ll have more later today for my weekly Thursday visit to MSNow’s The Moment. @ErielleReshef is hosting—and I’ll be by her side for the full 3PMET hour—with more on this, Hegseth vs Trump, MTG and Tucker Carlson’s new 3rd party plan, Iran, and much more.🚨🇺🇸

If everyone in Michigan was eligible to vote in one primary with all candidates in one race, the winners going to general election would be better off. Also, wonder if these are the choices that the majority of Michigan voters would have chosen? If 3? 4? #AllCandidatePrimaries

Did the 4% that voted for McMorrow know she dropped out? Did they vote for her before she dropped out? Would ranked choice voting have allowed them to have their vote still count?

Who owns public elections—the people or the political parties? That's the constitutional question at the heart of the amicus brief Open Primaries filed this week with the Oregon Court of Appeals. Voting is a right of citizenship—not a privilege of party membership.

This is fine. As long as the SCGOP is willing to pay for their primaries. OTW, this should not be legal (and likely won’t be soon). It is also the opposite direction many other states are moving… opening primaries for everyone to vote for the best candidate in every election!
South Carolina has become the latest front in the legal fight over taxpayer-funded primary elections. The SC GOP has filed a federal lawsuit seeking to limit participation in Republican primaries to registered party members. foxcarolina.com/2026/07/08/c…

“We continue to see bad systems defeat good people.” Heather Manchin So, in addition to trying to elect candidates who will not put a party first, but instead will put voters first, seems like reforming the system is necessary too?? @Sen_JoeManchin @smerconish
"Beware of the political parties..." @Sen_JoeManchin quotes George Washington as he launches the Independent Leadership Council, a new movement designed to recruit and elect candidates who will govern independently instead of aligning with either major party. Again, every contest on every ballot in GA has been reviewed and compared to the election outcomes. Of the 1.11 million ballots cast, there were only 23 discrepancies…all 23 were on hand marked paper. Again showing hand marked is less reliable than Ballot Marking Device ballots.

6 minutes! That’s all it will take to understand why partisan primaries and the incentives they create are keeping us from solving problems and reducing accountability! Thx @uniteamerica team! Let every voter vote in every race for the best candidate in publicly funded elections!
If the NFL ran their season like we run elections, millions of fans would be locked out of stadiums before kickoff. 🧵👇 In 2024, just 7% of voters effectively elected 87% of Congress due to closed, low-turnout party primaries. The system is broken, we need to let everyone into the game.

Ironic that @SenatorBennet, who opposed going to an all-candidate primary in Colorado, just lost in a partisan primary! Maybe he might feel differently about allowing every voter to vote in every race for the candidate they think is best? Maybe bring the Alaska model to CO?

“Ranked Choice Voting is confusing.” says almost no one who has used it!
In a new SurveyUSA poll, 78% of Washington, DC voters say ranked choice voting is simple, and 74% say they like the ability to rank candidates. @MaxJMarcilla of @DCNewsNow spoke w/ FairVote’s Deb Otis about what the poll results mean for RCV in the District.

Want to know why Alaskan’s legislature works to solve problems (and others don’t)? It’s the primaries!! The “Alaska Model”: a combined all-candidate primary with Top 4 going on to the General and RCV to determine the winner. #ThePrimarySolution to #ThePrimaryProblem
Does it feel like election systems too often reward division over broad public support? Alaskans built a system to change that, where open primaries and ranked choice voting keep the voters, not political parties, in the driver's seat.

We are excited to see this new analysis of the "Primary Problem" from @Paul_E_Peterson at @HooverInst! The partisan primary is a broken institution. Once said to be a democratizing tool, it has warped into a trust-busting destroyer of public confidence. It reduces meaningful citizen engagement, facilitates extremism, intensifies political polarization, and disrupts bipartisan governance. It weakens consensus-building institutions needed to preserve a strong US presence on the global commons. States should replace partisan with all-party primaries...in which each and every voter, regardless of party affiliation, can choose among the full list of candidates seeking a particular office, with the two receiving the most votes pairing off in the general election. Voters can choose a candidate of their own political party, or they can instead select an independent or a candidate from another party. All-party primaries will not eliminate political polarization or remove every barrier to consensus building in the United States, but they have been shown to enhance voter participation and adoption of centrist policies, and to foster bipartisan governance.
