The nation's major television networks are declining to participate in White House pool duties going forward. Fox News Washington Bureau Chief Bryan Boughton confirmed the move in an email to TV pool subscribers, saying there will be no replacement pool put in place. The decision follows the Trump administration's move to bar CNN, MS NOW, and POLITICO from White House access, which began Saturday when journalists from all three outlets were denied entry and had their credentials confiscated by the Secret Service.
CNN was scheduled to serve as the TV pool Monday, but a White House guidance email sent Sunday night listed no TV pool at all, naming Hearst and the pro-Trump Real America's Voice as secondary crews instead. It is unclear whether footage from those outlets will be distributed as broadly as traditional pool coverage.
The move could complicate coverage of Trump's activities at the UN General Assembly this week, since the pool system exists specifically to share footage when space is limited. POLITICO, CNN, and MS NOW filed a lawsuit Monday seeking to restore their access.
