Sadly my last tweet as British Ambassador to Tunisia. I leave Tunis today for the private sector. I remain profoundly optimistic about Tunisia’s future democratic & economic vocation; & the UK’s commitment to accompany on the journey, including in education & renewable energy.

Finally, it has been an enormous privilege to represent the UK in Baghdad, Khartoum, Washington DC, Madrid, Abu Dhabi, Amman & Jordan, the last three as Ambassador. At the end of the day it is our shared values which count, & the friendships based on those which we carry with us

This means that you are no longer required to quarantine, either in a dedicated hotel or at home. You only now have to - before travel - book & pay for a C19 test (PCR or lateral flow) on Day 2 after arrival: and complete a Passenger Locator Form within 48 hours before travel.

I just saw a wonderful photo of Mongi Slim addressing the UN General Assembly in 1961 as its first President from Africa. Also I think 🇹🇳’s first delegate to the UN Security Council. 65 years on, & 76 since the UN’s founding, the UK celebrates our partnership with 🇹🇳 on the UNSC

Encapsulates what will hopefully be the focus of the UK’s partnership with Tunisia over the coming months.
I congratulated Tunisian FM @OJerandi today on his reappointment and the formation of a new government. UK is ready to support 🇹🇳 in pursuing an inclusive political process, swift return to normal democratic functioning, and delivery on their economic & social priorities.

My visit this weekend to #SoniaFlowers in #Tabarka - established by Ms Sonia Ibidhi - certainly bears testimony to the vitally important contribution of Tunisian women to the rural economy, & to the national economy as a whole. Great that Tunisia has received this recognition.
#Tunisia has just received the @IFAD Gender Award 2021, for the Near East, North Africa, Europe & Central Asia, through the Agropastoral Value Chains Project in the Governorate of #Medenine (#PRODEFIL), announced the Ministry of Agriculture. bit.ly/3DI7yi0

Underlining the crucial economic contribution of women working in the rural economy,UK delighted to support Ms Sonia Ibidhi, whose enterprising start-up in Tabarka producing edible flowers eg violets for European export justly won last year’s Agricultural Businesswoman of the Year

On Rural Women’s Day, entrepreneur Sonia Bidhi told Ambassador @EdwardOakden about her organic edible flowers business, in #Tabarka . Sonia’s story is an example of how #RuralWomen are leading diverse businesses to improve lives and create jobs in their #community .

We believe that investing in girls’ education not only equips girls with the skills and knowledge to grow but also helps their community, in Tunisia and worldwide, to thrive. #Dayofthegirl

Stirred but not shaken by the latest James Bond #NoTimeToDie. Do try to watch it. But why is it that the Bad Guys always get to drive (and crash) some of the best cars? @LandroverMENA @LandroverTunsie
