@RoyalAirForce states that people with #Autism Spectrum Disorder are ‘normally unfit’ to join and people with #ADHD have to be ‘symptom and treatment free for 1 year’. This is not only discriminatory, but shows a total lack of understanding of the conditions. #RAF #MedTwitter
For starters, #Autism and #ADHD aren’t ‘Psychiatric Disorders’.
Secondly, some people who are #Neurodiverse actually excel in these environments.
#ASD, by definition, exists on a spectrum, so saying that people are ‘normally unfit’ is a gross overgeneralisation.
If someone has #ADHD, they don’t just become ‘symptom free’. Saying that a person should be ‘treatment free’ for 1 year is adding to the stigma associated with the condition and discouraging people from seeking a diagnosis.
