#StrictlyComeDancing @BBCOne @bphillipsonMP #thearts @frankcottrell_b This is why we need to promote The Arts in School. All children should experience this joy, this positivity. Maths is important but we must embrace the subjects that can bring joy and well-being to young lives

When I met Angela Rayner to campaign for change to overly aggressive council tax debt collection, with its unprecedented rapid escalation to balliffs, she nodded like most politicians do.
I explained it was destructive for individuals, councils and the economy. She listened more then said she'd change it. I was sceptical. Yet a consultation was launched within weeks and delightfully the change announced within 18mths (its in place from next April) - bullet train pace for politics.
I've a rule that if I campaign for a politician (of any party) to do something, and they do it, I say thank you. Its important to recognise it. So thank you so much Angela Rayner for listening and more importantly acting. The changes coming are a great start.
I promised we'd make council tax fairer, and I’m getting on with the job.
Too many working people have seen council tax debt spiral before they had the chance to get help.
That's why we're introducing more time to pay, clearer warnings if you miss a payment and more support from councils.
Thanks to @MartinSLewis and @mmhpi for their tireless campaigning to make this change happen.

Conversations about mental health can make a real difference - it’s World Mental Health Day tomorrow. This year’s theme is ‘Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change’, so I wanted to share a few things I do to look after my mental health.
Whether it’s getting fresh air by the lake, playing golf or valuable time with the kids, it's important to have moments which help me switch off, recharge and reset.
Let's keep talking.

Think of a black British man walking down the street.
Some people will say he can’t be British because he’s not white.
He was born in the UK.
Like his parents, as were all his grandparents & all his great grandparents.
All his family were doctors and he’s a doctor.
Some of you will say he’s not British,
Now imagine a white man walking down the road
You haven’t heard him speak.
In your mind he’s most likely British or he MIGHT be British.
In this example he’s Polish, just arrived yesterday, can’t speak a word of English.
You are more willing to think that someone who’s been here 1 day and can’t speak the language, IS English
Over someone who’s entire family have been here for 4 generations, who’s a doctor helping save peoples lives and pay lots of taxes & never known anything else than living in the UK and speaking English.
You’ve based your opinion purely on the colour of their skin……….
THAT is why people say it is racist 🤷♂️

By now it should be clear to all that when President of America Donald Trump is speaking in public, 99.9% of the time he's lying.
Very occasionally he speaks the truth; for example when he said, "I love the poorly educated" he was being truthful.
The poorly educated are not those who didn't do well at school. The poorly educated are the wilfully ignorant: Those who have strong, often very strong, political and societal views based on a determination not to fact check anything.
Trump works based on his belief that he is smart and the people (in his view those who are not rich) are stupid.
Tragically, millions remain determined to prove him right.

Charlotte Church sang From the River to the Sea at a fundraising event for Palestinians and now all the usual people are screaming antisemitism and trying to cancel her.

The joy of the wild.
I’m incredibly lucky that my work sometimes takes me to places like this — deep into the jungle in Papua New Guinea, surrounded by extraordinary life, noise, heat, colour and green.
But I don’t think “the wild” has to mean travelling to the other side of the planet. It doesn’t always have to involve mountains, leeches, machetes or sleeping in a hammock.
A wild place can be much closer to home. A local park. A footpath you’ve never followed. A patch of woodland. A river, a hill, a beach, a field. Sometimes it can simply mean turning left where you normally turn right and seeing what’s there.
Either way…I think we all need a bit more Wild in our lives. Getting outside, moving, wandering, exploring — feeling the weather on your face and remembering there’s a huge living world beyond our screens and our daily routines. It can clear away some of the nonsense, make us feel wonderfully small, and do enormous good for our head health.
So this is my gentle encouragement: find your wild place. Get outside. Have a wander, a wobble, a little adventure. Less screen time, more green time.
Because we could all do with getting just a little bit more wild.!!

Lake Baikal in Russia has *so* much water that if it were emptied over Africa, it would cover the *entire continent* in 0.78 metres (2 ft 7 in) of depth.
And this is despite Baikal being only 1/1000th of Africa’s surface area.

Today I turn 30 YEARS OLD, which means it’s been 14 YEARS since I was on #EducatingYorkshire. Incredibly, I’m now the SAME AGE Mr Burton was when he changed my life. As I say goodbye to my 20s, I dedicate this post to the life-changing teachers who never gave up on me. Thank you
