Hey look, Charlie's famous now. 😁

Meet Charlie, temporary #StetPet of OR editor @EarlEditorial.
"I don't usually have a #StetPet, but today I'm getting some work done at my parents' house. Charlie's not sure about me invading his space, so I let him keep the comfy chair."

We will use Merriam-Webster as our primary dictionary as of May 29.
We invited @MerriamWebster editor-at-large Peter Sokolowski to join the AP Stylebook Workshop to talk about how a dictionary is different from a stylebook and why you need both. Don't miss it!

"Rather than being authority figures, let's think of ourselves as subject experts."
I loved @LindsaySchopfer's "Developing Your Bedside Manner" from @EdsGuild's Red Pencil conference.
It's easy to forget how scared of editors writers can be! This was a helpful reminder.

Fellow fiction #AmEditing folks, I would love to get a sense of what macros you find useful on long book-length manuscripts. I took a wonderful macros course through the EFA, but I’m having a bit of a hard time figuring out which ones will be useful for book publisher clients.

So excited for Red Pencil! For anyone who has social anxiety*: know that introverts are very welcome. When in doubt, start a conversation by asking what kinds of projects the other person loves to work on. #amediting

Gentle correction: We will be talking about ways ANYONE can level up their business. We will mention how we get support from our mastermind group, but the topic is more about growing your business, not getting the most from a mastermind.

Almost time to fall back: By federal law, daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday of November in areas that do not specifically exempt themselves. In AP style, it's saving (not savings), all lowercase, no hyphen.

If you're just getting into freelance copyediting and proofreading with publishers and haven't taken an editing test yet, perhaps you'd like to get an idea for what to expect. Here's how it went for my most recent attempt. 🧵
Editing tests: brutal, am I right? Huge thank-you to the busy but kind production editors who take the time to provide feedback! The learning experience is invaluable. Now excuse me while I go find some bandages for my wounds.

No hyphen for Asian American, African American and other dual-heritage terms. When possible, refer to a person’s country of origin or follow the person’s preference. Such as: Filipino American or Indian American. RIP and thank you, Henry Fuhrmann @latimes. apne.ws/NBSGoYP
