🚨 BREAKING: After 76 years, the International Court of Justice in The Hague has described Israel's practices in the occupied Palestinian territories as apartheid. This means they no longer recognize it as a state.

In 1975, as Israel entrenched its illegal and violent military occupation over Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, a majority of United Nations member states approved a resolution identical to the Greens’ motion. The General Assembly declared “Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination”. That resolution lasted 16 years, until 1991, when the world changed dramatically. The Soviet Union collapsed, leaving smaller states exposed and vulnerable to the sole military super-power of the US. President George HW Bush exploited the moment to bully UN member states into reversing their support for the resolution, while Israel began a gaslighting campaign in which it refused to engage in peace talks with the Palestinians unless the resolution was revoked. That was the context in which the UN General Assembly rescinded its determination that Zionism was racism. The subsequent peace process – the Oslo Accords – led to the signing in 1993 of a deal on the White House lawn that many Palestinians assumed would lead to a Palestinian state alongside Israel. They were to be bitterly disappointed. Israel expanded its settlements at an unprecedented rate through the Oslo years, devouring the territories meant to form a Palestinian state. Memorably, Michael Tarazi, a Palestinian negotiator, observed of the bogus Oslo process that it was like negotiating over a piece of pizza while one party was eating it. Israel repeatedly failed to withdraw from the territories it occupied, as promised under the Olso formula. Gradually Palestinian trust in Israel’s good faith evaporated. The Palestinian “moderates” who engaged in the negotiations looked discredited. Hamas’ popularity rocketed, especially in the concentration camp Israel had made of Gaza. Israel not only sealed off Gaza but put it on a starvation diet and then intermittently “mowed the lawn”, blowing up neighbourhoods and slaughtering civilians indiscriminately. All of that culminated in Hamas’ break-out from Gaza in October 2023 and Israel’s genocidal rampage afterwards. That genocide is once again forcing a moral reevaluation of Israel – and a recognition that it was never serious about peace. Israel was born as a settler-colonial project. It never had any intention of conceding territory or allowing a Palestinian state. The dehumanisation of Palestinians was integral to its mission. In other words, Israel was always a racist project. The Greens have finally – very belatedly – recognised what should have been obvious all along. They should not be shamed for doing so. Instead we need to shame those whose goal is to buy more time for Israel to carry on committing its daily racist crimes against the Palestinian people. We have already been far too indulgent and waited far too long. Israel is not about to change. Its racism runs too deep. This is an extract from my latest article What’s shameful is that no party before the Greens called Zionism racist. Find a link to the rest in the reply post ⬇️

Always remember this: Under international law, a people under military occupation have the right to resist that occupation. They have a LEGAL RIGHT to fight. The occupying army is the terrorist entity not the resistance movement.

They panic when they hear the words "From the river to the sea." They call it eliminationist. They call it genocidal. They pretend not to understand what every colonized person understands instinctively. You cannot be free on half your neck. You cannot breathe in half a cell. From the river to the sea is not a call to erase a people. It is a refusal to live forever under a system that erases you. So long as Israel, as a Zionist project, is treated as sacred and permanent, Palestine will be treated as temporary and negotiable. They want you to believe in a future where the camp and the sniper tower, the checkpoint and the drone, the settlement and the rubble of villages all somehow coexist with "peace." But a colonial regime cannot coexist with the people it cages. It can only rename the cage. From the river to the sea is not extremism. It is a diagnosis. It is the recognition that freedom cannot share a border with the system that exists to deny it. So long as that system is recognized as legitimate, Palestine will not be free. And the world will keep pretending that the problem is the slogan, instead of the reality that made it necessary.

Gaza will haunt this century the way Vietnam haunted the last. Not because it was unseen. Because it was seen and allowed. Because the victims spoke and were ignored. Because the world had every chance to say no. And chose comfort. Chose caution. Chose career safety. Chose the scroll. That is the true scandal of Gaza.

You know what's INSANE? For decades, we were told it was antisemitic to conflate Zionism with Judaism. Now the British establishment is telling us that separating the two is antisemitic.

Jonathan, you can *think* what you like. But when you and other racist Jews (and non-Jews) offer support to a genocidal state that's exterminating children it views as inferior, then we shouldn't have to accept you into a progressive, anti-racist party. You have lots of mainstream parties you can join that support genocidal Israel. For the first time, we can join one that doesn't.

They came back from Vietnam and made movies about it. Apocalypse Now. Full Metal Jacket. Platoon. The Deer Hunter. Born on the Fourth of July. Beautiful films. Serious films. Films about the trauma of American soldiers, the moral complexity of American soldiers, the broken psyches of American soldiers. How many major American films center the experience of the Vietnamese? How many Hollywood productions have you seen where the Vietnamese are the protagonists, the full human beings with names and families and inner lives, and the Americans are the faceless army descending from the sky? Think about that structure. Think about what it means when a country kills three million of your people, loses the war, goes home, and then spends the next fifty years producing prestige cinema about how hard the killing was for the killers. Vietnamese suffering as backdrop. American suffering as subject. Vietnamese bodies as set dressing. American guilt as narrative arc. They could not conquer Vietnam militarily. But they tried to conquer the story. They tried to make the war, in global cultural memory, fundamentally about them. Their boys. Their trauma. Their national reckoning. We are not your reckoning. We are not your backdrop. We won. We exist. We have our own story, and in our story, we are the ones who were here before you came and here after you left.

Just to sound an optimistic note. The backlash was always going to be insane. Its intensity is reflective of fact that they know the Rubicon has been crossed. There is no going back now The Zionist-designed Oslo ecosystem—including many putatively "pro-Palestinian" groups and institutions—allows criticism of Israeli crimes but leaves Zionism (the racist ideology motivating them) as an untouchable redline This whole system is thankfully now in pieces. And this is just the start. Go harder

There is a fundamental problem, a wilfully dishonest problem, with the argument that Zionism means different things to different people or that it simply means supporting a Jewish homeland. The problem is that Zionism, as an ideology, has never manifested as anything other than an ethno-nationalist, colonising movement that has forcibly displaced, massacred and subjugated another people. It doesn't matter what your personal definition is: that is the reality, and no other reality has ever existed. Zionism has never meant anything other than that, has never been anything other than that. It has, in the real world, always acted as a racist doctrine. It's very clear that opposing it is not antisemitic. It is pro-freedom.

Nice speech. Did you know Andy Burnham is already a war criminal? If international law worked, he would be at The Hague being cross-examined right now By allowing Trump to use British bases for the illegal attack on Iran, Burnham has made himself and Britain a participant The bombing of Iran violates Article 2(4) of the UN Charter which forbids use of force against a sovereign territory (unless in self-defence or with UN Security Council resolution) Trump's attack on Iran is unusual in that it doesn't even have a pretence of legality Meanwhile, Hague Convention V (1907) —specifically Articles 2, 3, 4, 5—makes clear that if you allow munitions for use in war to pass through your territory you lose claim to neutrality. Permitting bombing raids from your bases even clearer violation Burnham is already a war criminal

Iran President Pezeshkian at the UN: "Those who are terrorists and train terrorists tell us that we are terrorists." "For two hundred years, Iran has not attacked any country. For two hundred years, we have always defended ourselves." "They bombed and killed these children, with weapons supplied by America and Israel. They were guilty of nothing. They had committed no crime." "In Gaza, they murdered more than eighty thousand innocent people." "Then they say others are terrorists, these are the ones causing instability -- are we the ones causing instability?" "Anyone they want to destroy, they label a terrorist." "Palestine remains a wound on the body of the conscience of the international community, and Gaza remains a symbol of the failure of international mechanisms to prevent the suffering of civilians." "Israel murders thousands of people in Gaza every week. But Iran was bombed while at the negotiating table." "Yet Israel receives billions of dollars in free weapons as a reward, and it is licensed to bomb any capital it wishes." "The nuclear bombs are in Israel, but the inspectors are in Iran. Israel kills, yet Iran is sanctioned, and this is a tragedy that would make anyone you tell laugh." "We must not build a world in which military power replaces legitimacy, sanctions replace diplomacy, terror replaces politics, and war replaces dialogue." "We have found our answer. We need power. Because a nation that cannot defend itself, they crush it in this world." "Let him know: the Iranian nation, in the face of force, will not bow its head, and will make the aggressors regret it."
