Born on this day in 1869, Mahatma Gandhi profoundly influenced my father and the Civil Rights Movement through his philosophy of nonviolent resistance. In 1959, Daddy and my mother traveled to India to deepen their understanding of Gandhi’s life and work. His example helped demonstrate that nonviolence was not simply a moral principle, but a powerful, practical method for confronting injustice and transforming society. As we also observe the International Day of Nonviolence, may we recognize that this philosophy is as necessary now as ever. In a world where violence and retaliation are too often treated as inevitable, we must continue to teach, practice, and demonstrate another way. #Gandhi #MLK #InternationalDayOfNonviolence #Nonviolence365
