The door clicked shut behind her before she even had time to announce herself properly.
Inside, the room was dim—lit only by a harsh lamp buzzing faintly overhead.
Knox was already there.
“Didn’t hear you come in,” he muttered, voice rough with drink and exhaustion.
His gaze flicked over her once—measured, unreadable—before dropping back to the knife in his hand.
A faint, humorless exhale left him as he resumed wiping the blade.
