Buy-in or overwhelming pressure?
Imagine knowing your NBA legend coach @Iam1Cent personally put millions of dollars into building the roster you're part of.
Even if he never brings it up, that has to add another level of pressure
How do you separate gratitude from obligation?
Penny Hardaway putting $2.6 MILLION of his own 💵 into @Memphis_MBB just to stay competitive.
A head coach paying millions to build a roster for the team he's employed to coach.
NIL and revenue sharing are one thing, but this is getting bizarre.
Where does it go from here?
NEW: Everything Penny Hardaway told me during my exclusive interview about his $2.6 million contribution to Memphis' revenue sharing amount.

“They” will ALWAYS have something to say.
Go D1…”they” will criticize you for not going high major
Go D2…”they” will criticize you for not going D1
Go NAIA…”they” will criticize you for not going D2
Go D3….”they” will say you weren’t good enough for a scholarship
Don’t listen to what “they” say….”they” don’t have to love your life and are likely jealous of YOUR blessing & opportunity!
Márcio Santos heads to @Baskonia with his NCAA eligibility unresolved.
For international athletes, uncertainty carries a cost: time, planning and opportunity.
A college commitment isn’t eligibility clearance. Athletes deserve clear answers before making career moves.

One more worth tracking: Rihards Čerņevskis.
At 6'5 his movement, shooting, off-ball feel and ability to attack closeouts add him to the discussion.

With the right vision, development and execution, size doesn't define your ceiling
International student-athletes don't just cross borders.
They navigate new cultures, new education systems, visa limitations, NIL rules, and often entirely different career pathways.

For international players who play on professional teams, years of eligibility could be docked from their ledger if they’re allowed to play at all! ‼️
Yet another NCAA rule change - new year, new adjustment. 🤯

New guidance issued by the NCAA to schools earlier this month opens the door for a crackdown on the tidal wave of international pros hoping to head to college basketball. Players from top leagues could face added scrutiny.

Another Euro pro coming to play college basketball.
Interestingly, he kept his name in the 2024 NBA draft.
Under new NCAA rules going into effect tomorrow, you lose your eligibility if you don’t withdraw from the NBA draft.
Will it apply to Ellis?
St John's lands one of the better prospects in Europe with 6-4 English guard Quinn Ellis
The 23-year old guard is having a strong season with Milan in the Euroleague averaging 7.7 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 4.2 APG on 46/33/81 splits
Strong size at the PG spot, he's a smart, savvy PG that offers St Johns day one leadership and playmaking.
Brilliant explanation. 👌
I wish every international student-athlete would know about the options they have.

International athletes often require added structure and expertise to navigate NIL rules.
What role can third-party licensing solutions or collectives play for international athletes?
I break this down in my book

European bigs have always been on high demand due to their game IQ and shooting capabilities. With NIL money it's more interesting, also for players to play in NCAA.

This is such an important point. The real issue is that universities and conferences aren’t pushing hard enough to find solutions. With visa rules so complex, the real hostages are the international athletes, who take on most of the risk.

When people ask me what I think the future of NIL looks like, my answer is simple: we haven’t even scratched the surface.
When NIL first passed, college athletes were just that… athletes. They grew up focused on training, competition, and performing at the highest level. Sure, some had hobbies, but very few were natural content creators or entrepreneurs.
But what about the YouTube generation? The kids who grew up eating Cheerios in high chairs with iPads? Ask a 6-year-old today what they want to be when they grow up and many will say “a YouTuber.” The world is shifting…. it’s digital first.
Quote me on this: in three years, some kids will start playing sports not just to compete but to tap into NIL as a way to build their personal brands.
Look at the Savannah Bananas. Nobody knew “banana ball” when Jesse Cole first started it, but now it’s a viral phenomenon. Sports and entertainment are colliding in ways we’ve never seen before. And if you don’t get ahead of the curve, you’ll be left behind.
Even now, we’re seeing it. A Clemson walk-on is using his position on the team to launch his music career. He’s even leveraging Clemson facilities and the Tiger logo… which carry an organic, built-in fan base to drive listeners to his songs. Go to his Instagram and you’d think he’s an artist first, athlete second.
The future of NIL won’t just be about deals. It’s about identity, creativity, and the athletes who understand how to build a brand in a digital-first world.

If you’ve felt limited by visa rules or unsure what’s allowed with NIL, you’re not alone. 🌍
Here’s how you can make a difference:
✅ Share your story or ask questions—your voice matters.
✅ Learn about options like the P-1A visa that could open doors.

If you’ve:
✅ Played 1+ year in college
✅ Represented your country
✅ Held a national ranking or competed internationally
You might already qualify for a P-1A visa.
Most schools aren’t using it. We can help you fix that.
