Just an FYI, for those that didn’t know, the price of #Diesel gas has gone up due to the war in Ukraine. Russia’s #Diesel fuel refineries have been destroyed by Ukraine, causing a shortage, which relates to higher costs of most everything.

President Trump agreed with proposal ethics rules that Democrats wanted to add to the Clarity Act and they still voted against it. Just goes to show that Democrats can’t be trusted.

Today is the day that the citizens of the United States will know which Senators are choosing to side with the Big Banks, who want to control you and your money. A vote against the Clarity act is a vote to control you and your money. Don’t let these Big Banks fool you! They have their own Crypto system in place that will destroy small banks and you! @USCongress @POTUS

SOLVING A TRAFFIC COUNT WITH TWO EQUATIONS MATH SKILL: Systems of linear equations using elimination CONCEPT A system of equations describes two facts about the same unknown quantities. If one variable is eliminated, the other can be found first and then substituted back. ENGINEERING CONNECTION Traffic engineers use pneumatic road tubes and other sensors to count vehicles and axles. A simplified axle count can help estimate how many passenger vehicles and three-axle delivery trucks used a road. KEY METHOD  Write one equation for vehicles and one for axles; then eliminate a variable. Vehicle equation:  x + y = total vehicles Axle equation:  2x + 3y = total axles WORKED EXAMPLE A traffic counter records 40 vehicles and 90 axles. Assume every vehicle is either a two-axle passenger vehicle or a three-axle delivery truck. How many of each passed the counter? 1. Define the variables. x = passenger vehicles;   y = delivery trucks 2. Write the two equations. x + y = 40 2x + 3y = 90 3. Multiply the first equation by -2. -2x - 2y = -80 4. Add the equations to eliminate x. (-2x - 2y) + (2x + 3y) = -80 + 90 y = 10 delivery trucks 5. Substitute y = 10 into x + y = 40. x + 10 = 40     so     x = 30 passenger vehicles 6. Check the axle total. 2(30) + 3(10) = 60 + 30 = 90 axles  ✓ WORKED ANSWER: 30 passenger vehicles and 10 delivery trucks PRACTICE PROBLEM A traffic counter records 55 vehicles and 125 axles. Assume each vehicle is either a two-axle passenger vehicle or a three-axle delivery truck. Find the number of each type. Let c = passenger vehicles and t = delivery trucks. Write and solve both equations. SHOW YOUR WORK __________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ ANSWER: 40 passenger vehicles and 15 delivery trucks. Check: 2(40) + 3(15) = 125 axles. TEACHING SUGGESTION Use two colors of counters to represent the two vehicle types. Emphasize that multiplying an entire equation changes its appearance but not its meaning. Have students verify both the vehicle total and axle total before accepting an answer.
