Shaming as a disciplining and punishment tool comes up again and again in the conversations we have about education. The harm that shaming does. How long it lingers. Nothing good comes out of shaming CYP.
Replying to @naomicfisher
Shame is easy to evoke, and hard to let go of. When we shame children for being children, for making mistakes, having a lot to learn and being immature, they feel it. They may not show it, but they do. The words reverberate down the years and can affect them for ever. 6/

Vital work from @coyl2022 today. Child Q is just one shocking case of a Black child being let down by their school and a police force which is supposed to protect them. Thanks to @adinacampbell for reporting on this. bbc.co.uk/news/education-612…

10) I thought it was obvious, but for those in the back. Inclusion work that excludes people, will never have impact or create change.

I've been contacted by many PhD students and non-academic researchers who need support. I help who I can, but there's a much greater need out there. I know that many universities have budgets. I would like to bring in more mentors, to support more people but can't afford to do so

If you’ve brought Black and brown folks, LGBTQ+ individuals, folks with disabilities, and young people to check the box at the end of a process, you weren’t centering equity but instead the fear of pushback.

“Equity” is not asking historically excluded communities to double check or confirm your work. It is inviting us to brainstorm, ideate, build, challenge, & create plans. It is paying us equitably. It is allowing us to design. Equity is paramount—it is not a shoddy & rushed.
