Having persistently raised levels of inflammation as measured by CRP throughout childhood and adolescence, peaking at age 9, was associated with increased risk of developing psychosis disorder, severe depression, and higher levels of insulin resistance. ja.ma/3Xd5NpW

Childhood Inflammation Linked to Later Mental Health Risks
Children with consistently high inflammation levels are at greater risk for developing serious mental health disorders, including psychosis and depression, by early adulthood.
A study found that inflammation markers peaking around age 9 were strongly associated with these disorders and cardiometabolic conditions like insulin resistance later in life.
The findings highlight the potential for early-life inflammation to impact long-term mental and physical health, suggesting the need for targeted interventions.

@EdPalmer5 and team @IMH_UoB used @CO90s data to explore trajectories of inflammation in childhood - demonstrating those with inflammation peaking at age nine are at increased risk of psychosis, depression and insulin resistance. New paper in @JAMAPsych birmingham.ac.uk/news/2024/i…
Very excited to announce the publication of my first paper from PhD in @JAMAPsych entitled Trajectories of Inflammation in Youth and Risk of Mental and Cardiometabolic Disorders in Adulthood @CO90s @IMH_UoB jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…
We found that those with raised inflammation peaking early at age 9 were at increased risk of developing psychosis, depression and insulin resistance.
