Opinions my own - True economic freedom is the expansion of democracy, global interaction, the exchange of goods, services, and ideas; and the end of poverty🗽

This is the second earthquake I’ve felt here. The last was in 2011.

After years of pushing for election reform, NJ finally got rid of their party endorsement and incumbent preferential system: the line. Now party endorsements won’t get preferential treatment and will open the NJ politics stage to more fair competition.

I would also like to see some more voting/election reform like STAR or Approval voting systems or more non biased voter guides. NJ has a lot of work to help the people believe in the system again.

Ultimately, time will tell for the effects of this change, some also claim little will change and some claim this may lead to more extremism. I’m hoping whatever happens, New Jersey continues on its path of reforms that will improve things like voter participation, voter satisfaction, corruption, trust in the government/voting process, competition, polarization and efficiency and effectiveness

This is why it’s good that Phil Murphy is encouraging adding additional units on existing properties.
"Why is everybody moving to the South?" in 1 chart If you're searching for affordable housing, the South just has a much healthier market thanks to higher construction rates TX's rental vacancy rate is ~2x CA/NY's, indicating just how much less supply-constrained the market is

I also updated New Jersey's ethnic map. Italian and Irish remain the top groups, with African-American #1 in major cities (Jersey City, Newark). German, English, and Polish are the other main European groups.

Basic Income Evidence Piece #96 Location: Paterson, NJ Participants: 110 Amount: $400/mo Duration: 1 year Design: RCT Income from work INCREASED significantly for those provided basic income compared to the control group that didn’t get basic income. xitter.cf/scottsantens/status/17…
Results are out for the guaranteed basic income pilot in Paterson, New Jersey where 110 people got $400/mo for a year. Pilot participants increased their incomes significantly to $24,810 from an average of $16,604. The control group ended up at $19k. While the control group's ability to cover a $400 emergency sharply declined, basic income recipients not only maintained their ability, but over 15% saved more than $500. Mental health improved. Distress levels went down. Social ties within the community improved. People did more work in their community. finance.yahoo.com/news/pater…

At a time when women’s rights continue to be stripped away, New Jersey is proud to be ranked the second-safest state for women in America by @wallethub.  We will always prioritize and safeguard access to quality health care and protections for women.

Despite our achievements in well-being, businesses still struggle to thrive here. Where I live, small businesses struggle to find success. We can do both, we can do great for our people while also allowing businesses to thrive. We should consider better business tax reform!

New Jersey has some of the highest corporate income taxes and property taxes amongst the nation. We should consider more productive taxation like Destination-Based Cash-Flow Tax or Land Value Tax respectively, these capture more from economic rents rather than from productivity

“The states in the bottom 10 tend to have a number of afflictions in common: complex, nonneutral taxes with comparatively high rates. New Jersey, for example, is hampered by some of the highest property tax burdens in the country, has the highest-rate corporate income taxes in the country, and has one of the highest-rate individual income taxes. Additionally, the state has a particularly aggressive treatment of international income, levies an inheritance tax, and maintains some of the nation’s worst-structured individual income taxes.” taxfoundation.org/research/a…

And second is New Jersey 😎
Replying to @cremieuxrecueil
If we throw together the crime, health, education, and income (i.e., wealth) variables and do PCA on them, we might reasonably call that "well-being." So, which state has the highest well-being? Massachusetts.

For the first time since records began, New Jersey permitted more housing units than New York last year. It should be embarrassing how low NY's level of construction has gotten.

Yeah I highly doubt NJ will be flipped
Trump: I think New Jersey can be flipped. I think that Virginia can be flipped. I think that New Mexico can be flipped, and I think Minnesota can be flipped. Bartiromo: You’re focused on Pennsylvania too Trump: I did great in Pennsylvania twice
