#Ελλάδα: The European Court for Human Rights @ECHR_CEDH ruled against Greece for the deadly 2014 shipwreck off the coast of #Φαρμακονήσι which cost the lives of 11 refugees including 8 children. Greece is ordered to pay damages to all 16 survivors. #ΗumanRights #RefugeesGr
Great news! Hopefully, this mechanism will be frequently used. EU funds must and should be withheld from Greece if we violate the rule of law – especially when it comes to human rights, refugee rights, children rights, media freedom, and suppressing justice.
When you call for a law to be implemented, look at who objects to them. Facism was part of our past in Europe. Our generation says no more. I hope ECJ’s conditionality mechanism is invoked for every country that does not uphold the law or seeks to suppress justice.

Yesterday, my signature and 213.431 others reached the @EU_Commission and @VeraJourova’s office. We must establish #EU-wide laws to end #SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation) – ή αλλιώς, στρατηγικές αγωγές κατά της δημόσιας συμμετοχής. #Ελλάδα
No one should be afraid of stating their views and sharing information that matters to all of us. Abusive litigation against EU journalists & rights defenders who speak up in the public interest can and must stop. Thank you @CASECoalition for mobilizing support to #stopSLAPPs 1/2
The Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (Ελληνική Ραδιοφωνία Τηλεόραση – #ΕΡΤ) aired a political debate for the leadership of the political party ΚΙΝΑΛ and chose to exclude #deaf and hard of hearing viewers by not providing #SignLanguage interpretation. #Accessibility #Greece
This isn’t the first time that the state-owned television broadcaster #ΕΡΤ demonstrated exclusionary practices against the deaf and hard of hearing community. The Hellenic Federation of the Deaf (ΟΜΚΕ) @omkegr issued a statement on this (in Greek). #Greece omke.gr/anakoinwseis/dt-gia-…
Greek authorities have long denied abuse claims made by asylum seekers, #refugees, #HumanRights groups, and NGOs – labelling them as “Turkish state propaganda”. However, in September, an EU employee was racially profiled, detained and expelled to Turkey.
nytimes.com/2021/12/01/world…
By “pushing back” the EU employee to the country they assumed he arrived from, #Greece proved one instance where a claim was not individually examined – as is required by international and European law. If due process was followed, they would have realised their mistake.
