Sometimes a purchase is also research. I’ve admired Ffern’s visual language and the experience they’ve built around their product for a while, so I finally ordered partly as a customer and partly as a curious founder. It was worth the wait. There’s something valuable about experiencing another brand’s decisions from the receiving end. It makes you think differently about the experience you’re creating within your own.

A great day at the FUEL Business Finance & Funding Roadshow in Edinburgh. Back to the studio tomorrow … with a few more things running through my head. #FUELRoadshow

“Doing Business Is Like Dating” Couldn’t agree more.

Away from the studio, surrounded by a different kind of making. A lovely evening with the @FSB_Voice at @Porsche Centre Edinburgh … meeting other business owners, exchanging stories, and looking at design through a very different lens. It’s always interesting to step outside your own discipline and see how others approach design, materials, craftsmanship and the process of turning an idea into something tangible. Somewhere between the engineering, materials and details, these words caught my attention: “In the beginning I looked around and could not find quite the car I dreamed of, so I decided to build it myself.” ~Ferry Porsche As a designer and maker, that thought felt rather familiar.

While capturing these details today, I realised I approach jewellery much the same way I approach painting. No two marks should ever be the same. Every piece develops its own identity. Handmade and hallmarked in Edinburgh.

One of the final stages in creating Hammered Gold. The silver is first hammered by hand to create its unique texture. A layer of 23.5k gold is then fused to the surface using the ancient Korean technique of Keum-boo, where heat and pressure permanently bond the precious metals without solder. Following a soft matt finish, the final stage is burnishing. An agate burnisher is used to compress selected areas of the gold, revealing luminous veins that create a subtle dialogue between matt and reflective surfaces, allowing the piece to respond differently as it moves through the light. No two pieces are ever identical. Handcrafted and hallmarked in Edinburgh. #HammeredGold #FineJewellery

Some mornings begin before a single piece is made. A coffee. A sketch. A workbench. A camera. This is where every piece is designed, handcrafted, photographed, and prepared before it leaves the studio. Welcome to ETT.studio. Handcrafted and hallmarked in Edinburgh.

For a long time, I thought I was looking for another pair of earrings. What I was really looking for was the pair I wouldn’t have to think about. Hammered Gold became the result of more than 14 months of experimenting, refining, wearing, and starting again until it felt right. I’ve now worn them every single day for more than a year. One pair. Every occasion. No second-guessing. Handcrafted and hallmarked in Edinburgh.
