Teardowns of voting and tabulation equipment have revealed inactive Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or cellular modems. Machines compromised at the hardware level can have those vectors of compromise re-enabled. Hackable cellular modems in election machinery and firmware/ software installed or updated on this equipment can all be potential points of attack. The need to connect vulnerable election management systems (voter registration databases, election night reporting systems) to internal cellular networks creates exploitable internet-facing points of attack even when core systems are believed to be isolated.
