On October 14, protests erupted near Albania’s Prime Minister’s Office, beside Tirana’s Pyramid. Originally built to honor communist dictator Enver Hoxha, the Pyramid is now a tourist attraction surrounded by shops, restaurants, and other businesses.

The school year is at full speed, and so is @sflcz's project Liberty to Schools. 😎 Just this past two weeks, the team hosted five talks in high schools around the country, introducing liberalism and basic economics, and having discussions with students about politics.

We spoke with @SteveDavies365 about global catastrophic risks, solar storms, nuclear war, supervolcanoes, and the difficult question of how much societies should spend preparing for disasters that are unlikely but potentially civilisation-ending.

Great new article by Ruben Ranval from @SFL_France
In France, the stakes are about to rise. As the 2027 presidential election is approaching, Marine Le Pen and Jean-Luc Mélenchon are both polling very high, particularly among young voters. Their programs differ, but they share a message: the system is rigged.

“As a believer in freedom, I regard the basic human value to be tolerance, based on humility. I have no right to coerce someone else, because I cannot be sure I am right and they are wrong,” explained Milton Friedman in a 1990 lecture. His insight is no less relevant today.

SPECIAL REPORT: Ukrainian forces have defeated the 2026 Russian campaign to seize Donetsk Oblast. Russian forces intended to conduct a deep encirclement of the entire Fortress Belt from the Lyman direction in the north and the Dobropillya direction in the southwest, linking up near Barvinkove, Kharkiv Oblast. This wide encirclement would have largely completed the seizure of unoccupied Donetsk Oblast. The Ukrainian counteroffensive known as Operation Vivaldi in the Lyman direction has completely disrupted this Russian plan by inflicting an operational defeat on the northern Russian pincer. This Ukrainian success will force the Russian military to reconstitute and likely fundamentally rethink its approach to accomplish its goals in this area. There is therefore no basis to assess that Russian forces will be able to take the rest of Donetsk Oblast in any short period of time, as Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to claim, or even to forecast that Russian forces will ever be able to complete their seizure of this region by force.

French economist and statesman Frédéric Bastiat was one of the nineteenth century’s most influential champions of free trade, private property, and limited government. Best known for works including "The Law" and “What Is Seen and What Is Not Seen,” Bastiat argued that good economic thinking requires looking beyond a policy’s visible benefits to the costs and opportunities we don’t see. His ideas helped shape classical liberal thought and continue to influence economics today.
