We are so incredibly excited to share this short video created by @BlakeMoynes which shows our latest collaboration with @ESC_Chocolate 🤍   This past week Blake and our team deployed a research Receiver (listening station) and tagged a globally endangered Caribbean reef shark! We are sincerely grateful to both Blake and Endangered Species Chocolate for supporting and believing in our work.   Receiver: We currently have an array of Receivers around Andros that record tagged sharks as they pass by (think of it like tagged cars passing a toll booth). This Receiver was placed in a new location and offers an exciting opportunity to record new movement information on Caribbean reef sharks that no one has ever attempted in Andros before!   Acoustic Tag: The acoustic tag was quickly implanted into the body cavity of the shark and each time it passes a Receiver it will ‘talk’ to it, sending an ID code, time and date stamp. These acoustic tags have a battery life of ~10 years and through our receiver array we’ll monitor the movement and habitat use of a mixture of animals, including this tagged shark! #savingtheblue #blakemoynes #endangeredspecieschocolate #sharkresearch #sharks #shark #sharktagging #saltlife #conservation
