This is the new version of Calgary’s original Substation No. 1 that was built in 1912. The new facility has modern electrical infrastructure that will power nearly half of the city’s downtown for decades to come. Some lane closures were necessary over the course of this project to safely connect Calgary’s underground network of cables to this new building. Thank you for your patience as we completed this important project.

Team ENMAX crossed the finish line at Tour Alberta for Cancer 2026 with a big impact. 53 riders participated in support of cancer research this year, with more than half a million dollars in total funds raised for the Alberta Cancer Foundation over the past three years. Our volunteers also supported riders from across the province on Sunday at the ENMAX Pit Stop. Thank you Tour Alberta for Cancer for bringing us together to support families across Alberta who are affected by this illness.

What a Stampede, Calgary! 🤠
From kicking it off with the Community Round Up to joining the @calgarystampede to welcome new families through the Pop-up Neighbours program, we loved celebrating every moment with our community.
You decorated over 2,600 paper cowboy hats as we gathered to share a meal at 15 Caravan Breakfasts across the city.
This was also our first year as the title sponsor of the ENMAX Relay Races. What a privilege to see the amazing racers, teams and their horses in action!
Thank you to the Calgary Stampede and everyone in the community who helped make this one memorable.

During a behind-the scenes tour when we asked a rider to share one thing they'd like people to know about relay racing, he said : "Horses are very spiritual animals; they feel the energy you bring. When you're on the horse all you hear is the wind and feel is the animal."
Relay racing has been a part of many Indigenous communities for a long time and we are proud to have been a part of the 2026 @calgarystampede Relay Races and the efforts to continue to elevate this historic sport.

The riders jumping from one horse to another is exciting. But, there’s lot more that we don’t often get to see.
Behind the scenes we heard how riders are connected to their horses and everything is about respecting and caring for these strong and powerful animals. We met with families who all work together to care for, ride and train. One rider described how his horse saved his life in more ways than one.

Did you know: the Blackfoot word for horse is ponokáómitaa which literally translates to 'elk dog'. Thanks to Hutch Sitting Eagle for teaching us this and many other things about horses and relay racing.

It was great to celebrate the grand opening of the new ENMAX Substation No. 1 in #YYC this week.
When Calgary's original Substation No. 1 was built in 1912 (which also happened to be the inaugural year of the Calgary Stampede) it was powering streetcars in a city that was only just beginning to find its footing.
Fast forward over 100 years later, and Calgary's landscape and electricity needs are very different. This new substation will help power the growth of the city well into the future, giving downtown businesses the confidence to grow, invest and build for the future, while ensuring residents have the power they need for many decades to come. ⚡️
