📣 Today, as the @EU_Commission holds its first college meeting with new Commissioners, 13 international and European organisations representing hundreds of thousands of writers, translators, journalists, performers, composers, songwriters, screen directors, screenwriters, visual artists, and other artists and creative workers, sent a letter to the Commission's recently appointed Executive Vice-President @HennaVirkkunen and Commissioner @GlennMicallef, who will be in charge of crucial EU policies related to generative #ArtificialIntelligence and #copyright in the cultural and creative sectors.
We congratulate both of them on their appointment and look forward to collaborating with them to put #transparency, #consent and #remuneration of authors and performers at the heart of all future initiatives for an ethical and fair use of #AI.

Last week, we published our ECSA Manifesto to place the needs and priorities of music authors at the heart of Europe’s future policies. The Manifesto outlines the various challenges faced by our members. In the coming weeks, we will highlight each of the Manifesto's main priorities.
The first pressing challenge our Manifesto tackles: #AI companies that use our members' works without consent, #transparency, nor #remuneration.
👇 Find below the four concrete actions our Manifesto puts forward to ensure that #genAI respects the rights of creators, and the fundamental principles of consent, transparency and remuneration.

📃 Today, ECSA publishes its Manifesto to place the needs and priorities of music authors at the heart of Europe’s future policies.
➡️ Go to our Manifesto: bit.ly/3BQag9P
The Manifesto outlines the various challenges faced by our members, including #AI companies using their works without consent or transparency, dismal #streaming royalties, unfair contractual practices, and a pervasive lack of transparency and accountability across the music industry.
In the past years, EU institutions and several European countries adopted various recommendations and actions to address those challenges. They now need to convert the try and turn these initiatives into reality. Therefore, our Manifesto puts forward 19 concrete recommendations for policy makers to achieve an equitable, sustainable, and thriving future for music creators across the EU.
