To great uncertainty and controversy, in 2007, Ljubljana closed 12 hectares of its city center to private cars. Just 40% of residents approved. A decade later, no less than 97% were against reopening to motor traffic: “None of us can really imagine cars ever staging a comeback”. – at Republic of Slovenia

Nobody is putting gargoyles on buildings anymore. It can’t be that much more expensive to slap a gargoyle up there. We used to be a proper country.

I thought it would be good to warn bicycle commuters in Luxembourg that some police officers are giving out tickets for missing items, such as bells and reflectors. A group of bicyclists riding in Strassen on Thursday were given fines of more than 100 euros for missing items.

The officer writing the ticket said he would stop more bicyclists as soon as he was finished citing me. Here is the illegal bicycle that was stopped before mine. This rider was missing side reflectors and a bell, so he received a fine of more than 120 euros.

I was actually fined because I stopped my bike to see why three officers had just pulled over the bicyclist in front of me. I thought the officers wanted to warn us about a road hazard or perhaps were taking a survey about bicycling in the city. I should stop being so curious.

Some mornings, after hand grinding beans, rinsing the filter, weighing the grounds and water, pre-heating the carafe and then doing the pour-over brew technique, I take a sip and wonder if coffee really is a good thing or perhaps one of the worst-tasting hot beverages invented.

Scary.
This sounds like a serious (taped) threat, shouted at a (nonexistent) crowd....
