Excellent reading (in 🧵) for younger researchers—two papers with near-identical core results, framed in very different ways. Kudos to @jasonmfletcher for the thoughtful discussion, it would be cheap, easy (and viral) to say "prestige is the only thing that matters in econ."

Since this is going around and half of the population will not prefer saving or standard so we will be stuck in clock changing hell forever Might we consider moving the clock 30 min towards standard this fall and make that permanent? Seems like the solution!
This will be such a nightmare.

Smell smoke this morning? Its coming from a wildfire outbreak in Ontario. While it should not impact air quality much today, smoke at the surface could increase Wednesday into Thursday, potentially reducing visibilities and air quality. High temperatures may also be limited.

Our new Electricity Price Hub is packed with useful data on how much rates have changed over time for a given utility, state, or congressional district. You can also see what proportion of the rate is going to generation, distribution, transmission, or "other" charges.
We are launching a big project today with MIT — The Electricity Price Hub! You can view monthly electricity prices per kwh and avg. bills for every major utility in the country going back to Jan 2020. electricity.heatmap.news/

I've seen a lot of demoralized posts (and emails) from people who didn't get into grad school this cycle. This was one of the worst cycles I've ever seen due to massive cuts to research funding, financial difficulties at universities, and technological disruptions. This means many brilliant and passionate people who would have normally been admitted to a program (or many programs) received zero offers. This had nothing to do with talent or merit. If at all possible, try not to take the rejection personally. This happens every year and it seems to be getting worse. And if you did get in this year--congratulations! You defied all the odds.
