Thoughtful thread on Progress 8 from Matt. His thread seems to cohere around one Q - what is the nature & value of the knowledge from (& about) disciplinary traditions & why does equal access to it matter? Imv a better starting point for debating ultimate inclusion than choice.

3) At their core, the changes to P8 are based on an overly simplistic understanding of curriculum breadth. Curriculum breadth cannot be measured solely by the range of subjects offered.

The proposed changes to progress 8 are a big worry, and I think they are likely to negatively impact the sector.
Here are my big concerns:

This has been annoying me a lot but I couldn't really express why.
Then a friend said "it's because it takes enjoyment as an input, not an output".
And that's it: enjoying a subject is a long-term entitlement, not a method. Sometimes important things are not enjoyable.

Ebacc arrested the decline in languages education. If it had been prioritised as a performance measure, the reverse seen in 2013 could have been sustained. It doesn't take a genius to predict what the removal of Ebacc and changes to A8 and P8 will do.
It was a great pleasure to host @catherinepriggs at @AvantiGrange and a great opportunity for our students to talk about history and their takeaways from our curriculum using #ChangingHistoriesKS3
#ChangingHistoriesKS3 is improving history curriculums in schools across the country. A huge thank you to @catherinepriggs for her reflections on the impact the Changing Histories curriculum is having on the pupils at Avanti Grange School. hachettelearning.com/blog/wh…

As many schools are gearing up for the Non-Examined Assessment for History A level, I thought I'd share some videos I made to support students in planning, resourcing and writing the NEA. I hope they are of use to all through my YouTube Channel youtube.com/playlist?list=PL…

I don't think Henry is particularly impressed with the Waterstones New History section. It's probably because there isn't a copy of @Counsell_C 's Changing Histories: Expanding Worlds. Teachers- go to hachettelearning.com to get yours.

These resources are truly first class and incredibly useful. Each planning and teaching video is like attending a mini HA or SHP workshop! A huge thank you to the authors for all their hard work and for creating something so special.
Out now! Our brand new Boost digital resources for Changing Histories KS3 - Expanding Worlds are here. From @Counsell_C and a brilliant team of authors.

I loved this episode. Christine really *gets* education, and has done the hard intellectual work required to come to sophisticated and challenging opinions. Everyone should listen to what she has to say.
Please share if you can 🙏
It was a tremendous honour to interview @Counsell_C on TBFM this week. She's been a huge influence on me, and her war against genericism has influenced the national and international picture.
Tune in and share!

This was an excellent free webinar. Really helpful to teachers and leaders wondering how to ensure lessons integrate rich extended text rather than bolting it on. You can still sign up to receive it. #ChangingHistoriesKS3
Our most recent webinar on planning and teaching a lesson sequence using an enquiry question from @catherinepriggs and @EG_Carr is now available to view!
It really is brilliant so don't miss out (we're not just saying so because we're biased).

One thing I’ve struggled with in our new (amazing) school is not having a History department or team to discuss curriculum with. Luckily the #historyteacher community continues to inspire & motivate! Thank you to @catherinepriggs @EG_Carr @Counsell_C for this fantastic session 👏
This webinar is living up to all expectations. @catherinepriggs is using the #ChangingHistoriesKS3 textbook to show how enquiry questions unify lesson sequences, drive transitions, secure disciplinary rigour & interact with the narrative line. A masterclass in history planning.
