ALT There are so many services that would benefit from scientist-led HF services and HF scientist champions. I know of teams providing echo-screening based on NT-proBNP findings, there are growing numbers of inherited cardiac condition scientist-led clinics, and also cardio-oncology services. There are also specific scientist-focussed HF courses and education.

ALT If I were to repeat the process, I don’t think I would have done it differently. I was able to grasp the workings of a busy cardiology department and gain exposure in the field. This style of learning suited me as it was mainly hands on and practical. A lecturer and colleague once called it learning by osmosis; this is something that has stuck with me and something I repeat to my students now.

ALT A diverse scientific community harnesses increases innovation, maximises talent, enhances the quality of scientific research through thorough and unbiased research questions, provides girls with role models so they can set their ambitions, and allows women to be involved in policy and decision-making processes to harness a fairer society.
