This afternoon in Harare, His Excellency President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is presiding as the Guest of Honour at the official opening of the 19th COMESA Business Forum and Exhibition at the HICC. Running on the sidelines of the high-level 25th COMESA Summit, this premier economic assembly bridges the gap between public and private entities to aggressively accelerate intra-African trade, cross-border investment, and inclusive industrialisation under the regional banner, "One Market, One Future". Grounded in the "Zimbabwe is Open for Business" doctrine and the continent's collective push toward the AfCFTA, President Mnangagwa emphasized that true African sovereignty hinges on ending the export of raw materials in favor of deep mineral beneficiation and localized manufacturing, headlined by strategic outcomes like the freshly signed ZimTrade-ALLPI leather value-addition accord. Through establishing a stable and highly predictable investment environment to dismantle restrictive tariff and non-tariff barriers, this oversubscribed forum leverages Zimbabwe’s upcoming COMESA Chairmanship to integrate regional supply chains across a massive US$1.23 trillion market of 640 million people, translating political goodwill into tangible, shared continental prosperity.

Mr Nicholas Mudungwe, Executive Director of ALLPI, told the workshop that Eswatini's leather sector is held back by a shortage of inputs and leather accessories and by limited access to finance. Joint procurement is part of the solution. The solution? Joint procurement for leather artisans and MSMEs: ✅ Economies of scale ✅ Stronger bargaining power ✅ Lower transaction and transport costs ✅ More reliable access to quality inputs #JointProcurement #MSMEs #Eswatini #LeatherValueChain
