Today, the J7 Task Force met with Irish Taoiseach @MichealMartinTD and Secretary General of @dfatirl Joe Hackett to sound the alarm about rising antisemitism in Ireland and to urge immediate action to protect the country's Jewish community.
We've seen in our own countries how an increasingly hostile environment for Jews can lead to deadly violence, as we witnessed in Bondi, Manchester, Boulder and Washington D.C. The demonization of Israel generates and fuels the surge in antisemitism in Ireland and beyond.
We warned the Taiseaoch and the Secretery General that the conditions for an antisemitic terrorist attack are sadly all too evident in Ireland, and Ireland cannot afford to wait for a tragedy before acting.
Tomorrow marks three years since 7 October 2023.
We remember every life taken.
Every family changed.
We remember them by name.
יהיה זיכרונם ברוך
May their memory be a blessing.

Ahead of the national release of Bondi Terror, the Weekend Magazine has run a searing and personal review by @overingtonc together with an extract of the book. Deeply grateful to Caroline for her insight and generosity, to Liz Colman for featuring the book so prominently and to Michelle Gunn and everyone at the paper for supporting our efforts to memorialise what was lost and to shake our country and the world out of this wretched stupor in which so much has been lost.

“Real test in fight against antisemitism starts now, as commission hearings end”, write @jeremyleibler of ZFA and Daniel Aghion of @ECAJewry, in this @dailytelegraph op-ed.
Australia’s Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion received more than 20,000 submissions, and 282 witnesses gave evidence about the reality of antisemitism in Australia. Today marks the end of the public hearings and the Commission’s final report and recommendations are due in December.
Witnesses spoke about hiding their Jewish stars in public. About homes vandalized with swastikas. About Jewish schools needing security that makes them look “a lot more like a prison than a primary school.”
As @ECAJewry's co-CEO Peter Wertheim said, “Our community has put its head, heart and soul into this Commission, providing the most detailed account of Jewish life in Australia ever put before a public inquiry…"

Antisemitism is a global crisis that demands global action. Nowhere has that been more urgent than Australia — where we've seen the largest spikes of antisemitic incidents since 10/7, including last year's horrifying murder of 15 people at Bondi Beach.
I spoke to @australian about what must come next to protect the Jewish community, and why Australia, with our J7 partner @ECAJewry, has a chance to lead the way.

WJC took the floor in Geneva for the 62nd session of the @UN_HRC to report on the startling rise in antisemitism in community sport.
What has the world come to when parents on the pitch spew antisemitic hatred against Jewish children?
Calls of ‘go back to the chambers,’ and ‘Hitler should have finished the job.’
If you see it, call it out.
WJC’s Together Through Sport initiative equips sports teams to be ambassadors of tolerance on the pitch, and to counter this culture of racism and hatred.

My friend @AlexRyvchin, co-CEO of our J7 partner @ECAJewry, was harassed and slandered as an "evil Zionist" this week while visiting the site of the Bondi massacre. Among those with him was a survivor of the attack.
As a reminder, 15 innocent people were gunned down last year at Bondi Beach in Sydney. Many more were wounded. Their crime was lighting a menorah. Their offense was their identity. Their sin was their existence.
This is the inevitable outcome of anti-Zionism: violent anti-Jewish hatred that, even as we mourn, we are still demonized and denigrated.
That someone felt emboldened enough to harass a Jew at the site of a deadly antisemitic terror attack just months later says a great deal about the climate Australian Jews are living in today.
In a few weeks, I'll be with Alex at Bondi and will stand in solidarity with him and the entire Australian Jewish community. #AmYisraelChai.

'When any Australian feels they must hide who they are by taking down their mezuzah or covering their kippah with a cap ... then something has gone wrong for all Australians.'
Harrowing testimony from Rabbi Wolff from Sydney’s Central Synagogue, speaking at the Royal Commission today, recounting a heartbreaking story how a congregant left a Mezuzah in his mailbox, because they were too afraid to put it up on their own home.

Yesterday in Sydney, two men with a fake gun allegedly threatened security outside a Chabad shul during Shabbat. They were arrested quickly, but Yanky Super, a survivor of the Bondi Beach massacre, was inside at the time. As @ECAJewry's @AlexRyvchin put it, "The level of sickness needed to do this months after a shooting massacre should disturb us all."
The Australian Jewish community, like any other, deserves peace and safety.

Literally the only difference between this and a “pro-Palestinian” rally is that these guys don’t bother substituting Jew for Zionist.
"Undiluted level of hatred and bigotry". Royal Commissioner Virginia Bell has slammed social media attacks on witnesses after they've given testimony and said at least one incident had been reported to the police.
The Commission is keeping close eye on these instances and recording these offensive social media posts.
Quite what this undiluted level of hatred and bigotry directed towards members of the Jewish community is thought to benefit by those who post these remarks is lost on me.
