Today is #WorldBicycleDay which fits in perfectly with the #MovementMW theme of #MuseumWeek
This bicycle belonged to the well known Barnsley butcher Albert Hirst who invented the Barnsley Chop which he served to HRH the Prince of Wales when he opened Barnsley Town Hall in 1933
#MondayMemories Who remembers Tracy Island?
Tracy Island from Thunderbirds was the must have toy in the early 1990s, back when we had to queue outside toy shops for new releases! Who remembers Blue Peter making their own version?
This toy features in our Stories of Childhood exhibition. We are open Tuesday-Saturday. You can also take a virtual tour of the exhibition

#OnThisDay in 1785 Joseph Bramah invented the beer pump handle, cheers! 🍻
In the museum we have a couple of objects by Barnsley's most prolific inventor; a fire pump and one of his unpickable locks.
Apparently today is #SuperheroDay
Lee donated his Raphael figure to the museum. Our collections range from the prehistoric period right up to the present day.
🕒 We are open Tuesday-Friday 10am-4pm and Saturdays 10am-3:30pm

"The lives of the people in the communities like ours are important, the stories are worth telling and to the kids growing up in Barnsley and towns like it, we hope in some small way this inspires you to tell your story with your own voice and without compromise."
Congratulations to Will Todd & James Carbutt, collectively known as @coalsupper
Thank Goodness You're Here! was awarded the best British Game award at the #BAFTAGamesAwards this week. Set in an imaginary town called Barnsworth, the game was inspired by Barnsley, their hometown.
