Buying a child is the problem. Ripping the child away from his mother at birth is a problem. Lying about his origins and erasing the mother on his birth certificate is a problem. Going abroad to exploit an “acquaintance” is a problem. Who cares if you’re heterosexual or homosexual. Surrogacy IS the PROBLEM. Stop playing the victim card for people who have done harm.

Some hard truths about Israeli electoral politics, which you won't read in English-language analyses, and which are rarely said in Hebrew-language writings either - some people don't know them, and many try very hard not to know them. 1) Political parties are like guns that jerk leftward, and which you need to aim to the right of the target to actually shoot the target. Which is to say, every single political party's rhetoric is two standard deviations to the left of the policies that it will actually promote when in government. The reasons for this are many, but the main one is that Israel's international environment and its unelected officials exert leftward pressure on policy. Without active interference by the elected government, in autopilot mode, between any two options the more passive and the more dovish one will be implemented. Constant friction and rightward push is required even to just keep things as they are. 2) Party platforms are irrelevant and not worth reading. Almost every party, with the exception of the Democrats, has a center-right to right-wing written platform. These platforms are meaningless and largely unrelated to the party's actual policies. For this reason it's also extremely midwit to complain that a party has no published platform. These are unnecessary for understanding the party's actual policies. 3) The most important thing about a party is not what it wants, but what it's willing to sacrifice a lot for. On paper, 80% of political actors want the same thing: no Palestinian state; free market economy; most Haredim should enlist in the army; no "coercion"; improve diplomatic relations with Europe, the US, and really everyone; expand the Abraham Accords; go tough on Iran. In reality, nobody will do all of these things, and you're lucky if your elected MKs will promite half of them. If you want to know what a party will promote, ask not what it wants, but what it wants to avoid at virtually any cost - even avoiding it will hurt a lot diplomatically/economically/socially, etc. A party's true platform is not what it wants, but the place where it refuses to get dragged even if the skies fall. 4) The party's slate of candidates, except for its leader, is also an unreliable guide to its expectable policies. Tokenism is rampant in Israel. Most politicians think that if they cram their slate with people with a certain background, then people with that background will vote for them. They are wrong, but they keep assuming that. Eisenkot's Yashar is full of knitted kippahs, but the party's support among the national-religious is miniscule. Ben Gvir's Otzma Yehudit has both religious and secular candidates, but few seculars vote for the party. And so on. 5) The correct way to determine a party's probable policy is opinion polls among its voters, and the base's socioeconomic and ethnoreligious composition. As I said, on paper almost everyone is right-wing about security, capitalist about the economy, and wants peace and good relations with our neighbors and trade partners. But as I also said, it doesn't matter what people want; the real question is where they refuse to be dragged - by coalition partners, by inertia, by international pressure, and so on. So as a rule of thumb, look at who the voters are, and you can figure out policy. A nominally right-wing party won't dig in its heels about building E1 even in the face of sanctions, if its core base consists of upper-middle class hilonim in Gush Dan who cannot bear the thought of losing visa-free travel to Europe. A nominally capitalist party is unlikely to lower taxes or increase competition by letting in Uber if 70% of taxi drivers vote for it and if the average socioeconomic score of its strongholds is 5.7/10. And so on and so forth. 6) Finally, just my sense personally. I strongly believe that most Israelis know these things. They go through the moves, they argue, they insist "but the party I'm voting for also wants X!!", but deep down they know all the things I wrote above. These arguments are an exercise in trying to make cognitive dissonance go away. It's hard to be a well-informed, intelligent voter in Israel because if you're honest with yourself, you know that however you vote, you'll give up things very dear to you. That's difficult to accept, so most most voters bargain before they resign themselves to the foul-tasting compromises they inevitably have to make. It looks like they are argueing with you, but really they are bargaining with themselves.

Supporting physiological birth safely, in line with women’s informed choices, is clearly a central and important part of good maternity care. But adopting a “midwifery philosophy and agenda” that seeks to promote one type of birth over another should absolutely not be. @YvetteCooperMP @MichelleWelshMP
Same wording. It's spreading. Job ad. Stockport NHS Foundation Trust Delivery Suite Coordinator "To encourage and support midwives to engage the philosophy & principle of the midwifery agenda thus promoting normal birth." beta.jobs.nhs.uk/candidate/j…

An audience member left me a gift anonymously at one of my shows this weekend, and I hope this message finds them. Inside the box was an antiquity coin minted in Judea during the First Jewish Revolt against Rome, nearly 2,000 years ago. Inscribed in ancient Paleo-Hebrew are the words “Harut Zion” — “The Freedom of Zion.” [It came from Zak’s Antiquities in Jerusalem, a place familiar to anyone who grew up loving the Land of Israel and bringing small pieces of history back home.] The Zealots deliberately used the script of their ancestors, dating back to the time of King David, to assert their claim to Jewish sovereignty in their own land. Two thousand years later we keep those same words, that same struggle, and that same land. One of the great privileges of being on tour has been knowing the people on the other side of the audience. No comment on Instagram could replace laughing with you in person. To whoever gifted me this thoughtful piece of history, thank you. עם ישראל חי

There are only three British women who have won the Olympic 800m gold medal: 🇬🇧 Ann Packer (Tokyo 1964 – 2:01.01 WR) 🇬🇧 Kelly Holmes (Athens 2004 – 1:56.38) 🇬🇧 Keely Hodgkinson (Paris 2024 – 1:56.72) Women first competed in the Olympic 800m at the Amsterdam 1928 Games but the event wasn't held again until Rome 1960. Packer struck Olympic 800m gold OTD in 1964.

An absolutely shocking report. How has this safety gap around home births been allowed to continue for so long? I speak as someone who had a home birth, a long time ago
“The severity of her condition had not been recognised at the midwife led birthing centre in South Tyneside despite numerous interactions with her and her mother, all of which were compounded by delays in the decision making to transfer…” judiciary.uk/wp-content/uplo…

Helen Haines lost her leg after being rammed by Brendan Nugent - a man just like the idiots waving Palestine flags on a street near you. He was a campaigner against British support for Israel. The pro-Palestine movement is driving people mad enough to maim others. Think about that when you see a bunch of Keffiyeh wankers Free Palestining. Baby Anhelina and her mom Inna were killed by Russia yesterday. Anhelina was just over a year old. Her mom, Inna Mariukhna, was a primary school teacher. They were in the park in Nova Vodolaha, Kharkiv region, when a Russian drone attacked. Little Anhelina was killed in her stroller. Her mom died of her injuries in hospital. Another girl killed in the strike was just 11 years old. Six people lost their lives from that Russian strike. All of them had simply been spending time in the park. At least 15 more were injured, including seven kids. Deepest condolences...

As an opera singer, I am qualified to say that you absolutely do not have the right to inject your own political beliefs into a performance that the public expects to be treated as the composer intended. It is extremely disrespectful to the paying audience, and your professional colleagues. He should never work in any house ever again.

The BBC has no business pushing a left-wing agenda on our children. Games urging pupils to campaign for Amnesty International, which branded gender-critical women’s rights organisations “anti-rights”, or promoting open borders are completely unacceptable. The BBC must be impartial & I’ve written to the BBC demanding these “educational games” be removed.

BREAKING: UN torture expert denounces colleagues Francesca Albanese and Reem Alsalem for denying October 7 atrocities and ignoring Hamas torture of Israeli hostages: “My colleagues said nothing. I felt ashamed. Their one-sided, vitriolic reports added to families’ anguish.”
Dr. Alice Jill Edwards: “The UN had done so little to help them... I felt ashamed. I am still outraged that UN special rapporteurs Francesca Albanese and Reem Alsalem never formally documented these horrors. Instead, both have continued to issue a stream of what I regard as one-sided and vitriolic reports, and hard-to-justify excuses for their lack of attention. That, families and returned hostages have told me, only added to their anguish.”

@bphillipsonMP . I will go to prison before I will tell my gay son there is something wrong with him and he needs to be “corrected” by cross sex hormones. THIS is the real homophobia and our political class are saturated with it. Ex Labour voter.
Look at Bridget Phillipson's language here: a bill that 'allows people to be their true selves', to 'live openly and safely as themselves', that criminalises someone who tries to 'change who someone is'. The Conversion Practices bill applies in the case of a child who says they're the opposite sex. Think about that. Apply Phillipson's thinking to the parent of a four year-old boy who says 'mummy, I'm really a girl'. Or to the parent of a teenage girl who is screaming 'I'm not your daughter I'm your son, you bigot!' By trying to present the bill as completely reasonable 'common sense measures' Phillipson has only succeeded in exposing its ideological basis. Her language is pure trans activism. archive.ph/BDRJN
