To all students in their Final year and yet to pick a project topic. If you are looking for Grad school opportunities in the United States 🇺🇸 Ensure your final year project relates with your research interest. If by chance you don’t have a research interest just yet. Go and search for schools and check labs in your field, what is the current research scope? That will give you a glimpse of what is currently going on in the field. Using myself as an example: I know I wanted to go to Grad school so when I was still in 300L, I started searching for schools and research labs. I noticed that the current and fast growing research area is the application of Artificial Intelligence/Machine learning in Cybersecurity. So what did I do? I picked my final year project to align with that. Final year project topic: “Deep Learning approach for Intrusion Detection System in IoT devices” I took a simple but worthy approach for an undergrad project nothing too sophisticated but it got the job done. I basically used an ensemble model of CNN and Bi-directional LSTM So when I was applying to grad school, I had plethora of choices grad programs I could apply to and I will fit in.
