It's been like this for ten years... Every first time voter this year will have no memories of politics before Trump. This is just who we are now. Forever.
President Trump calls for New Mexico to change its name to ‘New America.’

How do you even come into possession of Michael Tracey's phone number without being at least passively aware of the actual reason people are mad at him? It's extremely funny but indicative of the corrosive nature of social media that she thinks Tracey raped Jane Doe.
"Jane Doe" supporter from Sweden calls me, gets serenaded with a song

It's rather depressing but we probably do need to start considering the Netherlands as part of the Anglosphere. They have a higher rate of English fluency than the core Anglosphere countries do and they sadly don't consume many films or books in their own language anymore.

Anti austerity politics detached from a serious and disciplined Marxist analysis is basically just a temper tantrum. There's this allergy to theory among the populists and an allergy to Marx among the wonks, but the 20th century social democrats they both love all read Marx.
Because the anti-austerity movement of the early 2010s *was* slopulism. They didn’t need to “turn” to it, they were always like this.

This is extremely weird and I think less of states where this is common. I must have heard at some point that the lower 42 do this but it must've never registered because this is really alien and disorienting. Polling places belong in government buildings and nowhere else.
About 22% of polling places are located in houses of worship across the United States. It varies a lot by state, though. Oklahoma has the highest share -- 51%. Nevada has ZERO. This dataset only contained information on 35 states, however.

They should just make protesting illegal. It doesn't achieve anything of value and if anything it actually hurts left wing ideals when rioters alienate normal people and it attracts people allergic to reading theory to the movement. And we hardly need to pitch a ban to the right.

The QTs illustrate how group think happens. Pascal is extremely right-wing (he worked on the Zemmour campaign and his mother is a RN MP) but when he tries to correct his own side, he gets massively ratio'd on the assumption that only the enemy would challenge the narrative.
Just in case anyone is wondering: I live in Paris; if I didn’t have X dot com I would have no idea there are riots in France.

It probably wasn't a good electoral strategy for Lula to announce a policy a week before the first round that would result in every executive in Brazilian soccer wanting him gone. Banning sports betting is great policy, but the timing was atrocious.

Ukrainians after getting the American President they wanted suddenly being very mad he's serving the interests of his allies and supporters at home and abroad instead of being the cold war Republican the Ukrainians tricked themselves into thinking he was is as funny as it is sad.

What do you mean the man who has been salivating over Vladimir Putin for the last decade and whose supporters have become militant Russophiles through Russian propaganda networks isn't a heckin wholesome anti Russian crusader?

This is the strangest aspect of the Latin Americanization of America. Millions of people who will be outside the gates when America turns into an archipelago of gates will have gleefully built the gates. At least in Latin American the elites did this without adoring masses.
My favorite part of America is how much of the "fuck you I've got mine" crowd has exactly nothing

I don't want to sound like a Nordicist or anything, but outside of the two black guys and the one very pale girl (though it's not impossible she could be North African) you could tell me everyone depicted here was from Italy or from Algeria and I'd believe you either way.
Italian boys are absent from the "protests." The public square is dominated by North African men, surrounded by a harem of young Italian girls whose brains have been fried by the communist school system & the drugs peddled by their new idols. These girls, who call themselves feminists, are paving the way for a future of enslavement for their own daughters. @MartinSellner_ @EvaVlaar @ballaratiandrea

My Marx post is a great rorschach test. I was being snotty and slightly tongue in cheek while ultimately expressing a truth about Marx and his ideology and in response I am receiving both support and condemnation from quite literally all corners. Everyone sees what they want.

Does anyone who has a deep familiarity with linguistics know why French sounds so monotonous in a way that neither Romance or Germanic languages do? It can't be a genetic feature or be related to the Germanic substrate in the language which makes it even more interesting to me.
