“Community networks” put the power to build and govern communications networks back into the hands of the people who need it, decreasing our dependence on standard commercial infrastructure. Here is a simple diagram to show how the Seattle Community Network works!
Diagram of network structure. Illustration of building with main cell site and surrounding rings indicating WiFi and cellular coverage. Cell site tower transmits cellular to houses with LTE receivers. Houses with LTE receivers show a surrounding ring indicating WiFi coverage received from the main cell site. Text: “Cell sites placed on tall buildings distribute cellular (LTE) connection to LTE receivers on buildings within the community. Using the central cell site's LTE, the LTE receivers can provide WiFi connection.”
