Honoured to visit the Tamil Genocide Monument tonight to commemorate the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances and to call for justice and accountability regarding the Chemmani mass graves. A Sri Lankan mass grave excavation has uncovered 582 skeletons, including babies and children. The site is linked to allegations of military killings of Tamil civilians during the civil war, with investigations delayed for 30 years.

🕯 Five infants among 20 sets of remains found at Chemmani in two days
The remains of five children, believed from their size to be in the infant to toddler age range, were among 15 sets recovered at the Chemmani mass grave in a single day. An amulet was found in the pelvic area of one of the skeletons.
The total identified at the site has reached 544, of which 530 have been fully exhumed. Human remains have now been found in every trial trench dug beyond the main excavation area, strengthening concerns the site is far larger than the area dug so far.
Six days remain in the court-authorised phase. Identification of the dead has still not begun.
