What I learned in NBA last night 1) The Luka Doncic, Walker Kessler, Reaves, Williams, Thybulle lineup had a +37.3 net rating in Lakers Warriors & outscored Golden State by 20 points in 11 minutes on court together. 2) Anthony Edwards dominated defensively against the Heat, but grabbed headlines with his stellar offensive play. Timberwolves scored only 5 points in transition. Crushed Miami in their half-court sets. 3) Orlando Magic bench scored 20 points against the Hawks, fewer bench points than any of the 22 teams that played yesterday. 14 of those points were scored by Tristan da Silva. This is will be a huge problem for them, even when Anthony Black returns. 4) Pacers forward Pascal Siakam continues to be one of the most underrated stars in the entire league. Score 12 of his 30 points in the 4th quarter against the Pelicans. Takes so much pressure off his team in end of shot-clock situations. 5) Amen Thompson, Fred VanVleet & Marcus Smart were ridiculous defensively when at least 2 of the 3 were on the court together against the Mavs. Forced multiple turnovers and set the tone for everyone else. Game was finished before halftime. 6) Raptors defense forced 27 turnovers against the Bulls, scoring 35 points off of those mistakes. Nightmare recipe for opponents going forward because of how many dynamic athletes they have that can finish in transition. Kawhi Leonard has now scored 20+ points in 58 straight games. 7) The Ja Morant & Damian Lillard pairing can definitely work this season if Morant continues to play as well as he did defensively last night. Blazers went on a 21-0 run to start the game against the Suns & his energy was contagious. Dame is back on the offensive end. Interesting team. 8) The Anthony Davis & Trae Young pairing could be one of the biggest stories in the east if they stay healthy. Trae had a 13-1 assist-to-turnover ratio & controlled the game. AD dominated in every phase, especially when the game slowed down. 9) Naz Reid put up 20 points, 12 rebounds & 7 assists in Hornets debut. His frontcourt pairing with Moussa Diabate was incredibly effective. Yes, it was against the Nets, but they have a real foundation to build on. Reid’s skillset was always considered to be scalable.
