A 6-year-old shot his first-grade teacher, then told police he took the gun from his mom. Now the bodycam video is out.
The newly released footage shows the boy right after he shot teacher Abby Zwerner at Richneck Elementary in Newport News, Virginia, cursing at officers and admitting where the gun came from. Zwerner survived, and his mother, Deja Taylor, was sentenced to prison for leaving that loaded gun where her little boy could reach it. I support the Second Amendment, but owning a gun means locking it up, especially with kids in the house. A first grader should never be able to get his hands on a loaded weapon, period.
How do you hold a six year old accountable?
Is two years in prison enough for a parent whose child shoots someone with their gun?

Newly unsealed bodycam footage shows the moments after first-grade teacher Abby Zwerner was shot in the hand and chest at Richneck Elementary in Newport News, Virginia. A reading specialist had the boy wrapped in a bear hug while he swore at her and the officers. Zwerner survived, and a jury later awarded her $10 million after finding the assistant principal ignored multiple warnings that the boy had a gun that day. His mother went to prison for leaving a loaded gun where he could get it. A child doesn’t learn that kind of rage and disrespect at 6 years old by accident. It starts at home.
