Why “leading by example” is a banned phrase in our program: In 2016, former Marine and founder of The Program - @erickapitulik6 - presented on the main stage at the @ABCA1945 National Convention. It was a great 45 minutes. Tons of ideas. But one lesson in particular immediately grabbed my attention and I’ve never been able to let it go since. Here’s what he said ⬇️ “Every coach in America wants to talk to us about this guy: 1) He gets as bigger, faster, and stronger as he can in the off-season 2) He gives 100% effort every single day in practice 3) And when we call his number, he performs. But he’s just kind of quiet. He doesn’t say anything. He leads by example... Everyone wants to talk to us about that guy. I’ll you what we tell every coach in America, every business leader in America, every teacher and every parent in America: stop saying it. It’s a lie. You’re lying to that young person. [You don’t] deserve extra credit for doing those three things. Of course not. But we want to tell every kid in America who does those three things - but he’s just kind of quiet, he doesn’t say very much - that he leads by example… No, he doesn’t. You know what we call doing those three things? Your job.”
