The fact that I am so old that this is not just "unclassified" but also "in a museum" is pretty hard to process.

In June 1942, Japanese troops invaded US soil. Not at Pearl Harbor, but on Attu, an Alaskan island about 2,400 km (1,500 mi) from Anchorage and under 1,000 km (600 mi) from Kamchatka, Russia. The only land battle on US soil in the whole of WWII has left the island empty. Here’s why. 1/n

Not many people know or care about the Mexican-American War, but the US captured Mexico City in a week and just gave it back to Mexico bc Congress thought it wasn’t worth annexing by bipartisan consensus.

Robert and I are thrilled that our gift of over 2 million shares of SpaceX stock will be distributed to children’s Trump accounts in December!   Our initial gift (shares transferring to escrow as we speak) will go to 11 to 17-year-olds who live in zip codes with median family income (MFI) of $57,000 or less, and to those who live in zip codes with too few residents for an MFI to be reported in the census. These families should receive a notice by Monday.    In a few weeks, an additional gift will be finalized for eligible 11 to 17-year-old children in military families serving overseas, children in foster care, and more children whose MFI is $90,000 or less living in counties near our home in the great state of Texas.   Thank you to the incredible team @SpaceX, @Treasury, @IRS, @DellFdn, @GreaterHorizons, @InvestAmerica24, and the legal firms of Morgan Lewis and Gibson Dunn for working over the past few months to make this happen.   We are deeply grateful for the groundbreaking work that Brad Gerstner @altcap and @MichaelDell have done for the long-term financial security for millions of kids.   God Bless America!

My biggest concern is that if there is a clean sweep by Democrats of the House, Senate and Presidency in 2028, they will: 1. Make DC and Puerto Rico states to gain a strong majority in the Senate. 2. Open the borders and legalize everyone living in America illegally to cement a permanent majority. 3. Increase the size of the Supreme Court to gain an immediate majority. This would result in America becoming a permanent one-party state and the end of democracy in any meaningful sense of the word. All that is needed to ensure this doesn’t happen is 51 Republican senators in 2029. That is why you should vote for Republican senators this election. Other reasons are irrelevant compared to this one.

Kevin Kiermaier was a 31st round pick by Tampa Bay in 2010. He turned into the best center fielder the franchise ever had. He won Gold Gloves for them in 2015, 2016 and 2019. The Rays won nine Gold Gloves total from 1998 through 2025, which means one guy who was drafted in the 31st round has a third of them. Nobody on the Rays won another in the six seasons after his last one.

Reading a history of the bond market recently, and the author noted that Britain defeated Napoleon mostly because their consol bond market left the British military much better funded than France’s weak post-revolutionary capital markets. One Alexander Hamilton studied the British bond market, and then consolidated American revolutionary debt into one tradable market, which gave birth to what became the New York stock exchange, Liberty bonds, and the world’s largest capital markets. An army might march on its stomach, but it’s borrowed money that pays for the food and ammunition, and the one who can borrow the most generally wins.

It will never not be crazy to me that they didn't just write Jim Tressel a blank check to cake walk this Governors seat. The GOP literally had Ohio royalty on its roster, next in line and cleared the field for Vivek. There was nothing meritorious about this. Jim Tressel was next in line and they let Vivek cut.

"Her sides are made of iron!" a sailor shouted as British cannonballs bounced off the USS Constitution in 1812. They weren't. They were made of Georgia live oak, and getting that wood nearly killed the men who cut it. When Congress ordered six new frigates built in 1794, designer Joshua Humphreys wanted them bigger and tougher than any frigate in the world. That meant one tree: the southern live oak. Live oak is a strange tree. It doesn't grow tall and straight. It grows low and wide, with massive limbs that twist out sideways. That's exactly what shipbuilders wanted. A warship's skeleton is full of curves, the ribs and the braces that hold the decks to the hull. Cut those curves from straight lumber and you slice across the grain and weaken the wood. With live oak, you could find a limb that had already grown into the shape you needed, grain and all. It's also one of the densest, hardest, most rot-resistant woods in North America. The best stands were on the Georgia coast. So starting in 1794, the government sent crews of New England axmen and shipwrights to St. Simons Island to cut it. It was brutal. The trees grew in swampy coastal ground. The heat was crushing, it rained constantly, and the mosquitoes carried fever. Men got sick by the dozen and some died. The work fell far behind schedule. And they couldn't just cut any tree. Shipwrights went into the woods carrying wooden patterns, templates of each rib and brace in the ship, and searched tree by tree for limbs that matched the shapes. The rough timbers were hacked out, hauled to the water, and shipped north to Boston. There, they were combined with white oak from New England for the keel and planking, and tall white pine for the masts. The finished hull was around two feet thick at the waterline, with live oak ribs packed close together. She launched on Oct 21, 1797. Fifteen years later, in August 1812, she fought the British frigate HMS Guerriere off Nova Scotia. Sailors watched enemy shot hit her side and drop into the sea. She tore the Guerriere apart in about half an hour, and she's been Old Ironsides ever since. The Navy understood what it had. In 1828 it set aside a live oak forest near Pensacola, Florida, as a timber reserve for future warships, often called the first federal tree farm. And in 1976 it set aside a grove of white oaks in southern Indiana, named Constitution Grove, for one purpose: repairing her. She's still afloat in Boston today, the oldest commissioned warship in the world still able to sail. Not because of iron. Because of trees.

Missouri has broken containment. I can’t keep it a secret anymore, so I might as well be honest. Southern Missouri is way better than northern, more public land, prettier landscapes, lakes etc. If you want to move to Missouri, south of I70 is where to go.
