Over a decade since hearing my first @LDV_NNR Spotted Crake, I finally saw one of the three singing birds on Bank Island last night. Transmitter attached to understand how they use the area and how long they stay for after the first few days of intense singing. @YorkBirding

Recently the team managed to GPS track some of the #LDV Whimbrel at the nationally important spring staging roost at Wheldrake Ings - revealing useful evidence around field usage outside of the reserve boundary for daytime feeding @YorkBirding @NEYorksNLincs

A full survey of the site last night/this morning produced a total of 13 singing Spotted Crakes (likely to have been in for 4-5 days based on calling behaviour). Best listened for from Pool/Swantail Hide between 21:30-04:30, although one was also heard from the Wheldrake bridge.
