A potentially significant shift in US–Zimbabwe relations could be taking shape.
If the visit materialises, it could mark an important new chapter in Washington–Harare relations — particularly around Zimbabwe’s critical mineral resources, investment opportunities and trade potential.
For Zimbabwe, the message is significant: engagement is opening doors.
For the United States, Zimbabwe’s strategic mineral resources and emerging investment opportunities are increasingly difficult to ignore.
The next phase could be about turning diplomatic engagement into investment, trade and tangible economic partnerships.
Zimbabwe–USA relations may be entering a new chapter. 🇿🇼🤝🇺🇸

Mthuli Ncube: The Quiet Work Behind Zimbabwe’s Economic Transformation
By Dumbuchena Murefu
In every national transformation, some contributions are loud and visible, while others happen quietly — through policy, numbers, negotiations, institutions and long-term planning.
Professor Mthuli Ncube belongs to the latter category.
As Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, he has occupied one of the most demanding technical positions in the Second Republic, helping shape the fiscal and economic framework underpinning Zimbabwe’s journey towards Vision 2030.
His work has extended far beyond presenting budgets. It has included economic reforms, investment mobilisation, international financial engagement, development planning and economic diplomacy — often away from the political spotlight.
The 2026 National Budget was explicitly anchored on enhancing the drivers of economic growth and transformation towards Vision 2030.
The Minister and his team have also been central to the consultations underpinning #NDS2, Zimbabwe’s 2026–2030 development framework.
Platforms such as the UN General Assembly and #ZEDCON2026 have further provided opportunities to articulate Zimbabwe’s investment and development agenda to international partners, investors and the broader economic community.
None of this means Zimbabwe’s economic challenges have disappeared.
They have not.
Nor should every positive development be attributed to one individual. Economic transformation is necessarily a collective national undertaking involving Government, the Reserve Bank, businesses, development partners and citizens.
But within that collective effort, Prof. Ncube’s contribution is significant.
His is the less glamorous side of national transformation: the budgets, policy frameworks, negotiations, investment engagements and technical work that seek to create the conditions for sustainable growth.
Perhaps that is why his contribution can sometimes be overlooked.
But the quiet work matters.
As Zimbabwe pursues the ambitious journey towards Vision 2030, it is worth acknowledging those working consistently behind the scenes to build its economic foundations.
Prof. Mthuli Ncube is one of them — and his contribution deserves recognition.

Today, I had the distinct honour of presiding over the Inaugural Presidential Interface with Children of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC).
Running under the theme: "Safeguarding the Legacy, Towards Vision 2030," this landmark engagement is a testament to our enduring commitment to protecting our history while building a prosperous future.
During the interface, I had the pleasure of touring several vibrant exhibition stands and interacting with brilliant exhibitors from the Zimbabwe National Army, the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services, and various innovative empowerment projects spearheaded by the children of our veterans themselves.
To ensure that the descendants of our liberation heroes move beyond being bystanders and become active, leading contributors to our national development, I also officially commissioned trucks and tractors as part of a targeted empowerment initiative.
Our independence was won through sacrifice; its legacy will be preserved through economic empowerment.
Together, we are safeguarding our heritage and driving forward toward Vision 2030.

PRESIDENT MNANGAGWA EMPOWERS CHILDREN OF WAR VETERANS.
President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive economic empowerment after handing over an assortment of productive assets to children of Zimbabwe’s liberation war veterans at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) today.
The empowerment package unveiled during the Children of War Veterans Presidential Interface included 30-tonne trucks, Starlink internet kits from the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, tractors, farming inputs and several other resources intended to strengthen agriculture, transport, digital connectivity and entrepreneurship.
The intervention demonstrates the Second Republic’s determination to transform empowerment from rhetoric into practical programmes that give beneficiaries the tools to participate meaningfully in national development.
By providing productive assets instead of temporary relief, President Mnangagwa is opening new pathways for employment creation, income generation, food security and sustainable livelihoods among descendants of the men and women who sacrificed for Zimbabwe’s independence.
The Starlink kits are expected to enhance digital inclusion and access to information, while the tractors and farming inputs will support agricultural production. The heavy-duty trucks will create opportunities in transport, logistics and other commercial activities.
The historic interface also provided a platform for children of liberation war veterans to engage directly with the President on their aspirations, challenges and contribution towards safeguarding the country’s revolutionary heritage while advancing Vision 2030.
President Mnangagwa’s leadership continues to be anchored in the principle of “leaving no one and no place behind,” ensuring that every section of society is afforded an opportunity to contribute towards building a prosperous and empowered Zimbabwe.
Today’s programme sent a powerful message that the sacrifices of liberation war veterans will never be forgotten and that their children have an important role to play in defending the country’s sovereignty, accelerating development and carrying the liberation legacy into the future.
