Honouring Nigeria's Rural Women on Their International Day
Today, October 15th, is globally dedicated to honouring rural women. In recognition of their contributions, I set out early this morning to spend time with members of the Akpu Sellers Association at their markets in Sheda and Sheda Galadima, within the Kwali Area Council of the FCT, to gain a firsthand understanding of their lives and daily experiences.
During our discussion, they expressed concerns about worsening hardship, declining business patronage, severely insufficient water supply, and the need for microcredit to strengthen their businesses. I assured them that our government remains committed to supporting them, all rural women, and indeed, all Nigerians.
Supporting their enterprises will be one of our priorities because it is essential to my central commitment to lifting our people out of poverty. I sincerely honour the millions of Nigerian women in rural communities who cultivate our land, produce our food, sustain our families, and power rural economies, yet remain among those most neglected by government. They continue to endure hardship, insecurity, rising poverty, limited access to credit, and inadequate healthcare.
My solidarity with rural women demonstrates my commitment to building a Nigeria where those who sustain our nation are empowered to prosper, rural communities receive the investments they rightly deserve, and no woman is deprived of opportunity because of her place of residence.
A New Nigeria must support rural women.
I commend our women for their resilience amid severe economic pressures caused by poor government policies, incompetence, and the outright mismanagement of our national resources.
A New Nigeria is POssible, and will be OK. -PO

“To Officers Of The Nigerian Police Force, Inspector Samson Ikwuje Risked Everything For You. He Was Willing To Sacrifice Himself For The Welfare Of His Fellow Officers. I Wanted To Blur His Face Before He Made The Video Because I Knew He Could Be Arrested And Dismissed, But He Refused, Saying He Wanted To Fight For The Betterment Of His Colleagues Who Cannot Speak Out. Now That Inspector Samson Ikwuje Has Been Arrested And Detained We Must Stand With Him!”. ~ D English Alhaji
“65–70% Of Police Officers In Nigeria Work, Retire And Die Without Ever Owning Or Driving a Car. I Don’t Even Have a Motorcycle, Let Alone a Car, And After More Than 25 Years In The Force, I Have No Hope Of Owning One. I Can Barely Take Care Of My Children, And They No Longer Respect Me As a Father Because I Cannot Provide For Them. The Police Don’t Even Provide Us With Uniforms Or Adequate Welfare, Yet Our Superiors Continue To Oppress And Intimidate Us Whenever We Speak Out. Meanwhile, Politicians Are Embezzling Billions Of Naira And Driving Expensive Cars.” ~ Inspector Samson Of The Nigerian Police Cries Out Over Poor Welfare And Hardship In The Force.

FOREIGNERS BEATING NIGERIANS IN NIGERIA: A NATIONAL SHAME*
What we saw in that video of an Indian national beating two Nigerian truck drivers, Riliwan Olajide and Taiwo Yinusa, with the help of Nigerian thugs on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is not new. It is a pattern. And it is wrong.
How can a Nigerian be abused in Ghana, be abused in South Africa, be abused in Libya, be abused in India itself - and still come back to his father's land and be abused again by the same foreigners in his own country? Where then is safe for a Nigerian?
This is what happens when a government makes foreigners feel like gods and its own citizens feel like slaves.
Today in Nigeria, a Chinese man will slap a Nigerian worker in a factory in Ogun State and nothing happens. A Lebanese man will seize the passport of a Nigerian girl working in his restaurant and use her as a slave and nothing happens. An Indian factory owner in Lagos will flog his workers like animals and beat truck drivers with sticks using hired thugs and nothing happens.
Why? Because the government has told them, through its silence, that Nigerian lives do not matter.
A foreigner knows that if he beats a Nigerian, he will not be arrested. He knows he can call the police and the police will come to protect him, not the Nigerian. He knows he has money and our officials have hunger for money. So he does what he cannot try in his own country.
No Indian can beat a Chinese driver in India with Nigerian thugs and go free. No Lebanese can beat an American worker in America and still keep his business open the next day. But in Nigeria, anything is possible.
If government does not act on this Karma Agric Feed & Foods case, it is sending a message that it encourages this abuse. Because justice delayed is encouragement. Every day that man is still walking free, other foreign factory owners are learning that they too can beat Nigerians and nothing will happen.
Nigeria must not be a country where Nigerians are strangers. We cannot be unsafe in foreign lands and still be unsafe in the hands of foreigners in our father's land.
If a Nigerian breaks the law in India, India jails him. If a foreigner breaks the law in Nigeria, Nigeria must jail him too. That is what sovereignty means.
Until we start defending our own people on our own soil, no other nation will respect us outside.
