These are the voyages of the Space Shuttle Enterprise! 50 years ago today, NASA's first space shuttle voyaged out of the Rockwell facility in Palmdale for its public unveiling! Hundreds of invited guests, including Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and several members of the Star Trek original series cast joined in the first orbiter's rollout celebrations. NASA had originally planned for the orbiter to be named Constitution and scheduled for the rollout for Constitution Day. But President Gerald Ford, after receiving letters from thousands of Trekkies, directed NASA to name the shuttle Enterprise after the fictional starship.

The Army allowed Stripes to shoot at Fort Knox. The DoD loved the film so much that in 2016, an official U.S. Army Honour Guard flawlessly recreated the entire "Razzle Dazzle" routine in this exact spot to celebrate Stripes' 35th anniversary. “That’s the fact, Jack.”

🌪️ A Dust Devil on Mars! Perseverance captured this towering vortex about 3 miles away—a striking reminder that Mars still has active weather, with winds moving dust across its surface. Mars is far from a lifeless world. 🔴

🚀🌕 Artemis II — captured like you’ve never seen it before. High-speed cameras reveal the incredible details hidden inside the launch: the ignition, the violent exhaust plume, and the SLS climbing away from Earth. In real time, it’s over in moments. In slow motion, you can see the immense power behind every second. This is what a Moon mission looks like when the cameras don’t blink. 🔥🌎

A new perspective! 🛰️ Voyager 1 had been in space for two weeks and was 7.25 million miles (>11 million km) away OTD in 1977 when it captured this view of the whole Earth and the Moon in the same frame. It was our first image of the kind, but definitely not our last. 1. Voyager 1, 1977 2. DSCOVR, 2015 3. Artemis I, 2022 4. Artemis II, 2026

I know what you're thinking. 'Did he fire 1,150 shots or only 1,149?' Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself. But being as this is a GAU-8 Avenger, the most powerful auto cannon in the world and would blow your head clean off, you've gotta ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?"

A while ago I mentioned that Bruce Boxleitner and I were helping Warners with the launch of their Babylon 5 YouTube channel. As part of that, the first of three brand new half-hour-plus interviews/discussions between me and Bruce will go online on Monday. youtube.com/@Babylon5
