Not to toot our own horn, but this is exactly why @DrizzleHealth has built sensing on large physical volume samples! Our washwater testing system offers almost a million times more coverage than current testing!
Replying to @hbottemiller
Also, testing for pathogens in lettuce is extremely hard (& imo) random. You essentially grab a handful of sample from a room full of lettuce, say that it represents the entire thing and test that. In this case, that'd be catching lightning twice! xitter.cf/S_Digvj/status/2028559…

Metagenomics + Frontier AI = Protection against new threats? Not quite, imo. Wrote a response to @Simon__Grimm 's fantastic @IFP essay on scaling pathogen detection. The architecture is right. The input layer is missing/non-trivial. (1/7)

CDC's wastewater surveillance detects pathogens 2 weeks after spillovers. Yet everyone in biosecurity is building faster, cheaper, more sensitive tests. They're solving the wrong problem. The bottleneck isn't detection. It's sampling & concentration (& incentive alignment). (1/n)

Studies have even shown under-diagnosis of TB amongst women. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1513… Sporadic evidence also suggests sample collection and quality of sample as major impediments. Sample enrichment for a variety of demographic is an area of focus for us. #InternationalWomensDay
TB is often thought of as a ‘male disease’. More men are affected by TB. But the impact on women is significant 🤰🏽higher health risks during pregnancy 🙇🏽‍♀️disproportionate TB-related #stigma 😞the burden of #caregiving Let’s talk about why👇 #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2023
